This is a great opportunity for a Senior Associate or Special Counsel Property Lawyer who wants the best of both worlds: high-quality property work and an experienced team, the flexibility to WFH full-time, and a genuine pathway to Partnership if that is where you want to take your career.
The firm has a loyal base of sophisticated property clients, including some of Australia's largest retailers, major developers and property owners, and commercial clients with extensive property portfolios. There is a consistent stream of acquisitions, disposals and development work, typically involving transactions under $100m, alongside a number of $100m–$500m matters in recent years.
The Managing Partner is recognised by Best Lawyers and Doyle's Guide as one of Australia's top Property and Leasing Lawyers. The broader team includes a former national mid-tier Partner, an experienced Senior Associate and incredibly well-trained Paralegals, giving you the leverage to operate at a genuinely senior level.
The firm was established from the outset as a fully remote practice, with everyone working from home. This means the culture, communication and way the team works together have all been built around remote working, so you remain closely connected and involved in the day-to-day life of the firm. Most of the team is based around Melbourne and they catch up in person regularly, maintaining the social connection of a close-knit team alongside the flexibility of working entirely from home.
This is a growth role designed to give the Managing Partner greater capacity to focus on developing the client base and broader firm. We are therefore looking for a senior practitioner who can take the lead on matters, become a primary point of contact for clients and increasingly take ownership of key relationships.
Importantly, the Managing Partner is very open to transitioning client relationships rather than keeping them closely held. So you'll have the opportunity to develop genuine ownership of existing relationships while building your own profile and network.
If Partnership is your goal, there is an enthusiastic pathway available. Naturally, that comes with an expectation that you'll progressively develop a client base of your own, but you'll have active support from the Managing Partner in doing so. There is also a generous bonus structure rewarding you for any clients you bring into the firm, allowing you to benefit financially from your business development well before you've built the book ordinarily required for Partnership at a larger firm.
Equally, Partnership doesn't need to be your objective. If you're an experienced Senior Associate or Special Counsel who enjoys taking ownership of matters, managing important client relationships and being a safe pair of hands on files, that is also very attractive, as it solves the primary purpose of the role.
