Are you an experienced automation developer ready to lead the design and delivery of innovative automation solutions that improve how government services operate? Corporate Operations Directorate supports effective and efficient government operations by delivering critical technologies, shared services, automation and transformation projects across the Scottish Government. Within the Directorate, the Intelligent Automation Centre of Excellence (IACoE) plays a vital role in transforming our corporate services - delivering early benefits, supporting organisational change and reducing risk across shared services. This is an exciting opportunity to work as part of a motivated, collaborative and supportive team, where you will have the opportunity to develop your technical skill-set, and help build the Scottish Government’s Intelligent Automation Centre of Excellence. As a Senior Automation Developer, you’ll play a key role in leading the design, development and delivery of automation solutions across a diverse portfolio of work. Reporting to the C1 Lead Automation Developer, you will provide coaching and technical leadership within the team, as well as direct line management responsibilities for Junior Automation Developers, while working closely with stakeholders and multidisciplinary colleagues to deliver robust, scalable and business-focused automation services. You will take ownership of end-to-end solutions, support the operation of production services and drive continuous improvement across our automation capabilities. Responsibilities: Lead the delivery of automation solutions within an agile portfolio, providing technical leadership across the full development lifecycle. Design, develop, implement and support complex Robotic Process Automation (RPA) and Generative AI solutions using a range of technologies and approaches to support automation initiatives across the Scottish Government and wider public sector. Collaborate with senior stakeholders, business users and multidisciplinary teams to identify automation opportunities and deliver solutions through design, development, testing, deployment and ongoing maintenance, applying process optimisation and Lean/Agile methodologies where appropriate. Investigate and resolve production defects, manage technical debt and implement change requests to ensure the reliability, stability and continuous improvement of applications within the Centre of Excellence production environment. Define and promote automation design patterns and RPA/AI Automation best practices, ensuring solutions meet business requirements, quality standards, security requirements and target efficiency outcomes. Promote effective ways of working within the development team, coaching and mentoring colleagues, maintaining development standards and conducting peer reviews to ensure high-quality solutions, appropriate technology choices and efficient use of resources. Monitor and maintain live automation operations and estate. Support operations / live service running as well Change Management/ITIL procedures. Success Profile Success profiles are specific to each job and include the mix of skills, experience and behaviours candidates will be assessed on. Experience You have substantial experience delivering complex, enterprise-scale Power Platform and UiPath solutions, independently leading design, development, testing, deployment and production support activities, while applying Agile/Scrum and SDLC best practices to ensure high-quality delivery. You have proven experience managing the operational performance of Power Platform and UiPath solutions, defining monitoring and alerting processes, and identifying, diagnosing and resolving issues throughout the production lifecycle. You have significant experience designing end-to-end automation solutions, including RPA, AI and Agent architectures and enterprise integrations, while selecting appropriate technologies and embedding security, scalability and resilience into solution designs. GDD Pay Supplement This post is part of the Government Digital and Data (GDD) profession and currently attracts a £6,000 annual GDD pay supplement, which is paid monthly - pay supplements are reviewed regularly Working Pattern Our standard hours are 35 hours per week and we offer a range of flexible working options depending on the needs of the role, including Flexi-leave. Scottish Government staff in hybrid-compatible roles should aim to work in-person 40% of the time, either in an office or other agreed work location.
