Role Overview:

We are seeking a motivated Senior Python Software Engineer with strong AWS experience to support Data Engineering and Bioinformatics systems development. You will build scalable solutions using AWS services, with a strong focus on serverless architecture, while helping enhance and future-proof existing infrastructure. You will work with engineering and scientific teams across multiple time zones to develop practical, innovative solutions. The role also includes leveraging GenAI and RAG capabilities to improve data discovery and usability.

Key Responsibilities:

• Collaborate with engineering and scientific teams to solve software engineering challenges.
• Work with local and offshore teams on software development.
• Integrate existing GenAI and RAG solutions into internal chatbots to improve data discovery and usability.
• Rapidly prototype and iterate on solutions to support innovation.
• Develop large-scale, scalable computations using AWS services, particularly serverless technologies.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

• B.S. or higher in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Bioinformatics, or a related quantitative field.
• 2–5 years of relevant industry experience, with 5+ years of Python development experience including graduate school experience.
• AWS Developer certification or similar.
• Strong Python backend development experience, plus knowledge of ReactJS and HTML/CSS in AWS environments.
• Experience with event-driven and serverless architecture.
• Experience with Terraform and Python for AWS infrastructure as code.
• Proficiency with EKS, ECS, S3, SQS, SNS, and ALB.
• At least 2 years of experience with Lambda, Step Functions, SQS, and SNS.
• Familiarity with supervised, unsupervised, and reinforcement learning.
• Proven experience developing multiple production software applications.
• Knowledge of a second programming language such as JavaScript or Java.
• Strong software engineering practices including usability, version control, testing, and abstraction.
• Familiarity with GitLab CI and deploying high-performing cloud software, preferably on AWS.
• Knowledge of data structures, message envelopes, and schema design.
• Strong communication skills and ability to explain complex technical problems to peers, users, leadership, and scientific stakeholders.
• Able to work independently in dynamic research environments and adapt quickly to new domains.
• Curious, creative, proactive, and comfortable taking ideas into practical solutions.
• Experience using AI tools such as GitLab Pilot for code generation, testing, and efficiency.
• Comfortable working in high-performance, dynamic, and high-pressure environments while balancing features, quality, and timelines.

Preferred Skills (Nice to Have):

• Experience working closely with scientists or in scientific research environments.
• Experience with AWS DataZone and AWS Bedrock.
• Experience with High-Performance Computing and cloud solutions.
• Experience with GenAI and RAG solutions.
