Senior Back End Developer

VERTX assesses engineers and places them with companies in the United Kingdom, working remotely on long term contracts. We handle the contract, IP assignment and compliance around each engagement so that both sides can focus on the work.

Every engineer is assessed before we introduce them to anyone. There is no CV screen deciding your outcome. You complete a timed assessment against a real codebase rather than abstract puzzles, your submission is executed and scored, and you then speak with a senior engineer who has read your code in detail. Identity is verified and screening is carried out before and throughout an engagement.

The role

A remote contract role for a backend engineer working through VERTX. You will design, implement and maintain server side application logic, APIs, data storage and the integration layers between services. Day to day that means writing clean and testable code, reviewing the work of others, investigating production issues, and taking part in the technical design decisions rather than receiving them finished.

What we look for

Strong backend experience building and maintaining APIs and server side services. Solid working knowledge of at least one of Node, TypeScript or Python. Experience with relational or NoSQL databases, version control and continuous integration. A practical understanding of application security, performance and scalable distributed systems. The ability to work independently in a remote team and communicate clearly in English.

We assess on demonstrated skill. If your strongest work sits in private company repositories rather than in public, that is normal and it counts for nothing against you.
