Senior Backend Engineer | Java | Microservices | Remote - Spain

Job Description

At THEWHITEAM Consulting, we are looking for an experienced Senior Backend Engineer to join a technology project focused on modern backend development and distributed architectures.

The ideal candidate will have extensive hands-on experience with Java, strong knowledge of microservices and Hexagonal Architecture, and practical experience with messaging systems, cloud platforms, databases and containerized environments.

You will work on designing and developing scalable backend solutions while contributing to engineering best practices, observability and reliable software delivery.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop scalable backend applications using Java.

• Build and maintain microservices-based architectures.

• Apply Hexagonal Architecture (Ports & Adapters) and sound software design principles.

• Develop solutions using messaging and queueing technologies such as Kafka or RabbitMQ.

• Work with both relational and NoSQL databases.

• Develop and deploy applications in containerized environments using Docker.

• Implement and maintain logging, monitoring and observability solutions.

• Work with monitoring and visualization tools such as Grafana.

• Contribute to CI/CD and software delivery processes.

• Ensure code quality through testing, maintainability and software engineering best practices.

• Collaborate with other technical teams and stakeholders to design effective backend solutions.

• Troubleshoot technical issues and continuously improve system performance and reliability.

Requirements

• 8+ years of hands-on experience in backend development.

• Strong professional experience with Java, including modern Java versions such as Java 25.

• Proven experience designing and developing microservices architectures.

• Strong understanding of Hexagonal Architecture (Ports & Adapters).

• Experience with messaging and queueing systems such as Kafka, RabbitMQ or similar technologies.

• Knowledge of at least one major cloud platform: AWS, Azure or GCP.

• Experience working with both relational and NoSQL databases.

• Strong knowledge of Docker and containerized environments.

• Experience with logging, monitoring and observability tools, including Grafana.

• Basic understanding of CI/CD pipelines and software delivery practices.

• Good knowledge of software design principles, testing and development best practices.

• Spanish: Fluent.

• English: Advanced level (C1), both written and spoken.

Nice to Have

• Experience with Kubernetes.

• Exposure to DevOps practices.

• Previous experience working in Agile environments.

Technical Assessment

The recruitment process includes a technical pre-check to assess the candidate's technical experience and suitability for the role.

Conditions

• Location: Spain.

• Work model: 100% remote.

• Working hours: 09:00 - 18:00.

• Estimated project duration: 7 months.

• Experience: 8+ years.

• Salary: €40,000 - €43,000 gross annual salary.

• Positions available: 1.
