About Shoparize

Shoparize is an Amsterdam-based e-commerce technology company operating in 21 European markets. We sit

between merchants and the shoppers who buy from them, and we create value by making a merchant's

performance better than it would be alone. Our data, our expertise and our optimisation are what produce

that difference: we outperform Google CSS, and widening that gap is the permanent job rather than a finished

achievement.

The model is not tied to one channel. We are extending into other verticals and other revenue methods on the

same underlying capability. What stays constant is that we are paid on performance we can measure, across

more than twenty currencies and tax jurisdictions at once.

We are a little over 40 people across technology, operations, marketing, sales and finance. The business is

growing, has recently restructured into a group, and has passed the thresholds to become a middelgrote

rechtspersoon. It is now building the reporting and control infrastructure all of that demands. That is where

this role comes in.

Description

Our commercial data and our financial data do not yet speak to each other reliably enough. Marketing sees one

revenue number, Finance closes another, and the gap has to be argued out rather than looked up. You are the

person who ends that: you define what our financial metrics mean, you make the dashboards and the statutory

books reconcile, and you turn the result into decisions the leadership team can act on. It is a rare mandate at

this stage, and it will not be available again once the definitions are set.

Role

The role

As Senior Business Controller you are the financial heartbeat of Shoparize's performance management.

Reporting directly to the CFO, you own the monthly close reconciliation, financial reporting, forecasting and

budgeting, and you act as the primary Finance counterpart to our BI Specialist so that the data powering our

dashboards and our decisions is accurate, well defined and aligned with financial reality.

You are part controller, part analyst, part data owner. You define what financial data means at Shoparize, you

direct how it is structured and reported through our BI stack, and you translate it into insight for the CFO, the

revenue teams and the leadership team.

This is not a back-office role. You will be commercially engaged, intellectually curious, and comfortable

challenging both numbers and assumptions, including your own.

Position in the team.

This is a senior specialist role, not a management role. You report to the CFO and you

have no direct reports. You hold functional authority over the BI Specialist for everything Finance needs from

the data: you own the business requirements and the metric definitions, and the BI Specialist executes them

technically. You work alongside the Finance Manager, who owns the transactional ledger, accounts payable

and receivable, and payroll administration.

Your first twelve months

Concretely, and in roughly this order:

  • Take ownership of the monthly close, and get the dashboards and the books to agree without anyone

having to argue about it.

  • Build the consolidated reporting pack across the group's entities, with intercompany elimination and

multi-currency translation that hold up.

  • Carry the finance side of our first statutory audit alongside the CFO and the Finance Manager.
  • Rebuild the budget and the rolling forecast on definitions you have set yourself, in a data dictionary the

whole business signs up to.

  • Then, into 2027, help design and land the move from Exact Online to NetSuite.

What You Will Own

Financial close and reconciliation

  • Own the monthly financial close end to end: completeness, accuracy and timeliness.
  • Reconcile operational and transactional data from our systems against financial actuals, and own the

resolution of every discrepancy.

  • Reconcile revenue reported by third-party networks and partners to our own settlement and bank data,

including sample recalculation of commission and testing of accrual cut-off.

  • Make sure the numbers in our BI dashboards and the numbers in our financial statements tell the same

story, and investigate immediately when they do not.

  • Maintain a clear audit trail between operational data, management reporting and statutory financials

under Dutch GAAP (RJ).

  • Work with the Finance Manager on the close calendar, accruals and period-end entries.

Financial reporting and performance analysis

  • Own and continuously improve monthly management reporting: P&L, gross margin, cash flow and market-

level performance.

  • Support the CFO on board materials, investor updates and executive business reviews.
  • Analyse revenue, cost and margin performance across all 21 European markets, and identify the drivers,

trends and outliers behind them.

  • Translate complex financial and operational data into clear, concise business narratives for leadership.
  • Deliver ad hoc analysis to support commercial, operational and strategic decisions.

Forecasting, budgeting and planning

  • Lead the annual budgeting process and the rolling forecast cycle.
  • Build and maintain the financial models behind scenario planning, market expansion and investment

decisions.

  • Monitor actuals against budget and forecast; own variance analysis and management commentary.
  • Improve the quality, frequency and reliability of forward-looking financial information across the business.
  • Support capital allocation with structured business cases and financial modelling.

Data ownership and BI direction

  • Act as the Finance-side product owner for all financial and business data: metric logic, KPI definitions,

reporting requirements.

  • Direct the BI Specialist on the data structures, dashboard builds and reporting outputs Finance and

leadership need. You own the business requirements; the BI Specialist executes technically.

  • Establish and maintain a single source of truth for revenue, margin and cost that holds across Finance,

Marketing, Sales and Operations.

  • Identify data quality issues proactively; escalate and drive them to resolution with the BI Specialist and the

relevant data owners.

  • Make sure the marketing and revenue optimisation data the CMO relies on reconciles to financial

reporting, so that parallel and conflicting numbers never take hold across teams.

  • Maintain a living data dictionary of financial metric definitions, agreed across disciplines.

Group reporting, audit and systems

  • Build consolidated reporting across the group's entities, including intercompany elimination and multi-

currency translation.

  • Carry the finance side of our first statutory audit. Shoparize passed the thresholds of art. 2:397 BW in 2025

and now qualifies as a middelgrote rechtspersoon; the audit runs with PwC. You produce the

reconciliations that close, the lead schedules, and a working-paper trail a third party can follow.

  • Support the integration of acquired businesses into group reporting and the management information

pack.

  • Help design and then land our move from Exact Online to NetSuite, planned for 2027: chart of accounts,

reporting logic, data migration validation and post-migration reconciliation. The timing is deliberate, a

short financial year and a multi-entity group are worth building around properly rather than lifting and

shifting.

Strategic finance and CFO support

  • Work closely with the CFO on capital allocation, liquidity planning and investment prioritisation.
  • Contribute to strategic finance topics: market expansion, new product investment, growth initiatives.
  • Support preparation for financing activity, investor reporting and due diligence.
  • Help shape the financial narrative of the business for internal and external audiences.

Business partnering

  • Build trusted relationships with the commercial, marketing and operational teams, and become their first

call for financial insight.

  • Challenge business assumptions constructively, and help teams understand the financial consequences of

their decisions.

  • Own the financial measurement layer behind our OKRs and KPIs across revenue-driven functions: define

how performance is calculated, produce the numbers, and flag deviations early. Ownership of the OKR

process itself sits elsewhere in the business.

  • Help establish a data-driven, financially disciplined performance culture across Shoparize.
  • Support the CMO with financially grounded revenue optimisation analysis, anchored in auditable financial

data.

What We Are Looking For

  • A university degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Economics, Econometrics or a related field, with 5 to

8 years of relevant experience in business controlling, FP&A or financial reporting.

  • Proven ownership of a monthly close or financial reconciliation process. You understand the detail and the

discipline this requires.

  • Strong financial modelling and analytical skills, and the ability to move from granular data to executive-

level insight without losing either.

  • Experience working with BI tools and data environments, and comfort translating business questions into

data requirements for a technical team.

  • Familiarity with data warehousing concepts and reporting tools. Experience with BigQuery and Looker

Studio is a strong plus.

  • A solid grasp of P&L, balance sheet and cash flow mechanics in a multi-market environment.
  • Excellent communication skills, and the ability to influence finance and non-finance stakeholders who do

not report to you.

  • A high degree of ownership, intellectual rigour, and a low tolerance for unreliable numbers.
  • Comfort operating in a fast-moving, entrepreneurial environment where the processes are still being built.
  • Fluent English. Dutch is an advantage, particularly for statutory reporting, audit and interaction with our

external accountant.

Nice to have

  • Experience in e-commerce, marketplace, adtech, SaaS or another high-growth digital environment.
  • Hands-on experience with BigQuery, Looker Studio or an equivalent data warehouse and BI stack.
  • Experience of a first statutory audit, or of working in an audited environment with a Big Four auditor.
  • Experience of an ERP implementation or migration, ideally NetSuite.
  • A background in performance marketing analytics, or familiarity with ROAS, CAC, LTV and contribution

margin.

  • Exposure to fundraising, equity or debt processes, or investor reporting.
  • Experience in a multi-entity, multi-currency, multi-country finance environment, including consolidation.
  • A background in FP&A at a scale-up, or in transaction advisory, consulting or an investment-related role.
