Visio Financial Services, Inc. is an Equal Opportunity Employer

The Opportunity:

As a Senior Business Intelligence Engineer at Visio Lending, you'll play a key role in creating trusted, polished, decision-ready Power BI reports and reusable semantic models from governed, populated views and approved data products.

This role turns business requirements into intuitive report experiences, precise SQL-powered analysis, and maintainable Power BI content. The Senior Business Intelligence Engineer also serves as the technical owner of the Power BI platform, partnering closely with business owners, analysts, engineering, and security so platform, ingestion, and access decisions follow the established team process while reporting deliverables remain the central focus.

What You'll Do

  • Design, build, and maintain intuitive Power BI reports, dashboards, and apps that make complex business information easy to understand and use.
  • Partner with business stakeholders and analysts to translate decisions, questions, report mock-ups, and acceptance criteria into clear report layouts, navigation, filters, drillthrough experiences, and visual interactions.
  • Own the Power BI platform's day-to-day technical operation, including workspace lifecycle, approved tenant settings, licenses and capacity coordination, content organization, publishing standards, and operational health. Keep the environment usable, governed, and reliable for report authors and consumers.
  • Write, validate, and tune complex SQL queries against governed views and approved data products to support report development, data exploration, reconciliation, and troubleshooting.
  • Build and maintain reusable Power BI semantic models from approved, populated views and data products, including practical relationships, measures, DAX calculations, Power Query transformations, and model documentation.
  • Develop accurate, reusable DAX measures and calculations; validate results against agreed business examples and help identify data or definition issues before they reach report consumers.
  • Prototype report experiences and iteratively improve the user interface based on stakeholder feedback, usability, consistency, and business usefulness.
  • Comfortably and responsibly use approved AI tools to accelerate report design, SQL and DAX development, test cases, documentation, troubleshooting, and learning. Validate AI-assisted output, protect confidential information, and apply sound judgment before production use.
  • Publish and maintain report and app content through established workspace and release processes; verify visible freshness, report-to-model bindings, and representative consumer experience after approved releases.
  • Work with the engineering and security teams on row-level security, permissions, workspace roles, gateways, refreshes, Azure, and Fabric. Lead the Power BI-side configuration and consumer validation, while access policy and material security decisions remain a group decision with the appropriate owners.
  • Coordinate Power BI connections, gateway and refresh issues, and platform incidents with the engineering team. Own the Power BI operational response and escalate upstream ingestion, ADF, and source-data engineering to the appropriate owners.
  • Support report defects, data questions, and adoption needs; distinguish report, semantic-model, source-data, and access issues and coordinate the right resolution path.
  • Create reusable report templates, document report logic and usage, and coach authorized report authors on shared-model consumption and effective report design.
  • Participate in requirements reviews, user acceptance testing, and release validation; keep clear documentation of report behavior, known assumptions, and test results.
  • Other responsibilities and duties as assigned based on business needs
  • Authorized Remote Locations: AL, AR, AZ, FL, GA, IL, IN, KS, KY, LA, MI, NC, SC, TX, UT
  • Salary Range: $108,000 - $126,000 (Exempt level position)

What We Are Looking For:

  • Bachelor's degree in information systems, business analytics, computer science, a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • 4+ years of professional experience developing business intelligence reports and semantic models in Power BI or a comparable enterprise BI platform.
  • Strong report-design and user-experience skills, with a demonstrated ability to turn business questions into clear, usable reporting products.
  • Strong SQL writing, data exploration, and query-validation skills; able to use SQL confidently to analyze governed views and troubleshoot reporting results.
  • Hands-on experience with Power BI Desktop and Power BI Service, including semantic models, relationships, DAX, Power Query (M), report publishing, apps, and report-level troubleshooting.
  • Experience administering Power BI workspaces, apps, content lifecycle, and basic tenant or capacity settings in a governed production environment.
  • Experience working from defined business requirements, validating calculations and data with stakeholders, and supporting user acceptance testing.
  • Strong comfort using approved AI tools as a core part of modern BI work, with the ability to validate outputs, protect sensitive information, and apply judgment to AI-assisted work.
  • Working knowledge of workspace roles, Build permissions, and row-level security concepts, and the ability to participate effectively in group-based access and security decisions.
  • Clear written and verbal communication, strong attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively with business partners and engineers in a remote environment.
  • Internal Applicants: Must meet minimum qualifications and have no recent disciplinary actions.

What We Prefer to Find:

  • A strong instinct for report usability, visual hierarchy, clarity, and decision-focused design.
  • Excellent SQL and analytical problem-solving skills, paired with care for data accuracy and business context.
  • Experience supporting financial, operational, or executive reporting where accuracy, reconciled results, and controlled releases matter.
  • Experience with shared semantic models, deployment pipelines, source control, or automated testing for Power BI content.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Fabric, Azure data services, capacity monitoring, or Power BI REST APIs.
  • Experience using tools such as DAX Studio, Performance Analyzer, or Tabular Editor to improve report and model performance.
  • Experience developing reusable report templates, documenting business logic, or enabling governed self-service reporting.
