About The Role

We are seeking experienced Senior Cloud Architects and Cloud Engineers to support the delivery of major ICT initiatives within an Australian Government technology environment.

This role offers the opportunity to work across enterprise cloud architecture, solution design, cloud engineering and digital transformation. You will contribute to the development of secure and reliable cloud services, helping shape technology solutions that meet business needs while supporting long-term organisational objectives.

Working with Microsoft Azure and Microsoft 365, you will combine technical expertise with strategic thinking to deliver practical solutions across cloud platforms, application integration and infrastructure. The position is suited to professionals who enjoy solving complex technology challenges, influencing technical decisions and working with multidisciplinary teams.

  • Position: Senior Cloud Architect / Cloud Engineer (Multiple Position)
  • Rate:$1,000-$1,200/day + super
  • Location: Remote working arrangements, subject to approval
  • Preferred location: Canberra / ACT
  • Start date: 19 October 2026
  • Initial contract: 12 months
  • Extension potential: Up to two additional 12-month extensions
  • Hours: Up to 40 hours per week
  • Security clearance: Baseline clearance required

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop enterprise cloud architectures across Microsoft Azure and Microsoft 365.
  • Translate business requirements into secure, scalable and practical cloud-based solutions.
  • Prepare high-level solution architectures and detailed technical guidance for cloud engineering teams.
  • Provide technical direction across cloud infrastructure, application platforms and integration services.
  • Assess the impact of new requirements, proposed changes and emerging technologies on existing systems.
  • Develop and maintain architecture documentation, technical standards and implementation guidance.
  • Design and support cloud solutions using Azure App Services, Azure Functions, Azure Logic Apps, Azure SQL, Azure Service Bus and Azure API Management.
  • Implement and manage cloud infrastructure through Azure DevOps, Infrastructure as Code and automated deployment pipelines.
  • Configure and support Microsoft Entra ID, Azure Key Vault, Azure Monitor and Application Insights.
  • Design secure Azure networking solutions using Virtual Networks, Private Endpoints and Role Based Access Control.
  • Integrate cloud applications with third-party systems, enterprise platforms and Microsoft Dynamics 365 CRM.
  • Contribute to cloud platform automation, continuous integration, testing and continuous delivery.
  • Work closely with developers, business analysts, enterprise architects, testers, Scrum Masters and business owners.
  • Partner with service experience specialists to ensure technology solutions support usability and customer needs.
  • Ensure architecture and delivery practices align with relevant Australian Government standards and digital service principles.
  • Promote cloud architecture best practices, reusable services and sustainable technology decisions.
  • Support the adoption of secure, user-friendly and reliable cloud solutions across project and operational environments.
  • Participate in technical reviews, design workshops, solution assessments and delivery planning.
  • Provide mentoring, technical coaching and knowledge sharing to cloud engineering team members.
  • Monitor cloud platform performance, reliability, security and operational efficiency.
  • Identify opportunities to improve cloud costs, scalability, resilience and automation.
  • Assist with incident investigation, technical troubleshooting and continuous improvement activities.
  • Adapt technical solutions and delivery priorities as project requirements evolve.
  • Undertake additional duties relevant to the role as required.

About You

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience implementing and managing cloud systems and technologies.
  • Strong hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure and Microsoft 365 cloud environments.
  • Demonstrated experience with Azure App Services, Azure Functions, Azure Logic Apps, Azure SQL, Azure Service Bus and Azure API Management.
  • Proficient in Azure DevOps, source control, repositories, Infrastructure as Code and CI/CD deployment practices.
  • Experience with Microsoft Entra ID, Azure Key Vault, Azure Monitor and Application Insights.
  • Strong understanding of Azure networking, security and identity management, including Virtual Networks, Private Endpoints and Role Based Access Control.
  • Experience integrating cloud-based applications with third-party systems, including Microsoft Dynamics 365 CRM.
  • Demonstrated ability to design and implement enterprise-level and application-level cloud architectures.
  • Experience developing solution architecture, technical documentation and architecture guidance for cloud engineering teams.
  • Strong understanding of application, integration or infrastructure platform architecture.
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience designing and documenting architectures for large, complex enterprise systems is desirable.
  • Experience working with Agile, multidisciplinary teams to deliver secure, reliable and user-friendly technology solutions.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with geographically dispersed teams and stakeholders across technical and non-technical functions.
  • Strong communication, stakeholder engagement and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor team members and contribute to a positive team environment.
  • Experience providing technical leadership across project delivery and operational activities.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities, requirements and delivery challenges.
  • Understanding of Australian Government architecture principles, whole-of-government standards and the Digital Service Standard.
  • Experience with AWS and/or Google Cloud Platform is desirable.
  • Relevant cloud certifications such as Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert or Azure Administrator Associate will be highly regarded.
  • Must hold or be able to obtain Australian Government Baseline security clearance.
  • Remote working arrangements may be considered on a case-by-case basis, subject to business requirements.
  • Must hold valid working rights in Australia for the duration of the engagement; sponsorship is not available, and applicants must have Australian citizenship.
