Senior Compliance Officer (12-Month FTC)

London | Hybrid Working


An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Compliance Officer to join a highly regarded London law firm on a 12-month fixed-term contract.


Working closely with the Head of Risk & Compliance, you will play a key role in ensuring the firm remains compliant with all relevant regulatory and statutory requirements, with a particular focus on client and matter onboarding, AML compliance, and risk management.


This is a broad and varied position offering exposure across multiple areas of legal risk and compliance, while also providing the opportunity to mentor and support junior members of the team.


Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain, and enhance AML policies and procedures
  • Review AML documentation and advise on customer due diligence requirements
  • Advise fee earners on AML regulations and best practice
  • Conduct and review conflict checks
  • Run sanctions screening and investigate sanctions alerts
  • Provide guidance to staff on compliance policies and regulatory obligations
  • Assist with the implementation and maintenance of compliance frameworks
  • Regularly review and update internal compliance policies and procedures
  • Deliver compliance-related training across the firm
  • Conduct ongoing monitoring and enhanced due diligence on higher-risk clients
  • Support wider risk and compliance initiatives alongside the Head of Risk & Compliance
  • Mentor and develop junior members of the compliance team


About You

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Previous experience working within a Risk & Compliance function at a London law firm
  • Strong experience managing client and matter onboarding processes
  • In-depth knowledge of AML regulations and financial crime risks within the legal sector
  • A solid understanding of SRA regulations and compliance obligations
  • Experience conducting conflicts, sanctions, and client due diligence checks
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
  • The confidence to advise and challenge fee earners on regulatory and compliance matters
  • The ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with colleagues across the business
