Job Summary
The Senior Contract Administrator, Renewable Energy is responsible for the independent review, analysis, negotiation, administration, and interpretation of contracts supporting utility-scale renewable energy, battery energy storage, transmission, substation, wind and related infrastructure projects. This position serves as a key commercial advisor to Project Management, Operations, Procurement, and Leadership teams by evaluating contractual risks, recommending negotiation strategies, interpreting contract requirements, and supporting successful project execution.
The Senior Contract Administrator exercises independent judgment and discretion in assessing contractual risk, developing risk mitigation strategies, recommending contract revisions, negotiating commercial terms within established authority levels, and determining when legal, commercial, or operational matters require escalation. This role works collaboratively with internal stakeholders while helping protect the Company's business interests and contractual rights.
Responsibilities/Essential Functions
Contract Review & Negotiation
- Independently review, analyze, draft, negotiate, and administer a variety of commercial agreements, including Master Service Agreements (MSAs), EPC agreements, subcontract agreements, supplier agreements, consulting agreements, confidentiality agreements, and project-specific contracts.
- Evaluate contractual terms and conditions to identify commercial, financial, operational, and legal risks and recommend appropriate mitigation strategies.
- Develop and recommend negotiation positions, contract revisions, and alternative language that align with company objectives and risk tolerance.
- Lead contract negotiations with customers, subcontractors, suppliers, and service providers within delegated authority.
- Interpret contractual provisions and advise stakeholders regarding contractual rights, obligations, and available remedies.
Risk Management & Commercial Support
- Analyze key contract provisions including indemnification, limitation of liability, warranties, liquidated damages, payment terms, dispute resolution, force majeure, and termination rights.
- Identify contract risks that may impact project profitability, execution, scheduling, compliance, or customer relationships and recommend appropriate mitigation measures.
- Evaluate customer contract requirements and ensure appropriate flow-down of obligations to subcontractors and suppliers.
- Support business units in balancing commercial opportunities with contractual risk exposure.
- Assist in the resolution of contract disputes, claims, and commercial issues arising during project performance.
Project Support & Contract Administration
- Advise Project Managers and Operations teams regarding contractual requirements, notice obligations, claims preservation, change order procedures, schedule impacts, and compliance requirements.
- Review, prepare, and negotiate change orders, amendments, notices, and other contract-related documentation.
- Support project teams during bid reviews, project startup, project execution, and project closeout activities.
- Monitor contract performance and compliance throughout the contract lifecycle and proactively address potential issues.
- Maintain accurate contract records and documentation in accordance with company policies and procedures.
- Track key contractual milestones, notice requirements, deliverables, renewals, amendments, and expiration dates.
Internal Collaboration & Process Improvement
- Collaborate with Legal, Finance, Procurement, Operations, and Project Management teams to resolve contract-related matters.
- Prepare contract summaries, risk assessments, negotiation memoranda, and management reports.
- Participate in the development and maintenance of contract templates, playbooks, standard language, and best practices.
- Provide training and guidance to internal stakeholders regarding contract requirements and risk management principles.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives related to contract administration and commercial risk management processes.
Decision-Making Authority
This position exercises substantial independent judgment and discretion in the performance of its duties, including:
- Reviewing and interpreting contractual terms and conditions.
- Assessing commercial, operational, and financial risks associated with contractual commitments.
- Recommending negotiation strategies and contract language modifications.
- Advising management and project teams on contractual rights, obligations, and risk mitigation approaches.
- Determining when contractual, legal, financial, or operational issues require escalation to Legal Counsel or executive leadership.
- Prioritizing contract review activities and managing workload with minimal supervision.

Education and Experience Requirements
Required
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Legal Studies, Construction Management, Supply Chain Management, Finance, Professional Studies, or a related field; equivalent experience may be considered.
- Minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in contract administration, contract management, procurement, commercial management, or related roles.
- Experience reviewing and negotiating commercial agreements and construction-related contracts.
- Strong understanding of contract interpretation, risk allocation, contract compliance, and contract lifecycle management.
- Strong analytical, negotiation, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment and make recommendations involving significant business and contractual considerations.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred
- Experience supporting renewable energy, utility-scale solar, battery energy storage systems (BESS), transmission, substation, EPC, infrastructure, or industrial construction projects.
- Knowledge of construction contracting principles, change management, claims management, project controls, and commercial risk assessment.
- Experience with contract lifecycle management (CLM) systems and document management platforms.
- Professional certifications such as NCMA Certified Professional Contract Manager (CPCM) or related certifications are a plus.
Work Environment / Physical Requirements
This position primarily works in an office, hybrid, or remote environment using a computer, phone, and standard office equipment.
- Ability to sit, stand, and work at a computer for extended periods.
- Ability to use standard office equipment, including computers, phones, and related technology.
- Ability to occasionally lift and move office materials or equipment up to 15 pounds.
- Ability to travel periodically to project sites, customer meetings, industry events, or company locations as needed.
- Team members are required to adhere to all safety requirements in all work environments.
