A Day in the Life

Global Commercial Operations (GCO) partners across Medtronic businesses to enable commercial execution through strategic programs, operational excellence, and customer engagement initiatives. Within GCO, the convention function provides enterprise expertise in convention, congress, and exhibit strategy, planning, and execution. The team works closely with marketing, communications, sales, and business leaders to maximize the value of convention investments, strengthen customer engagement, ensure brand consistency, and maintain compliance with industry and corporate requirements.

This position is based in the United States and is designated as Remote. Candidates may work from any U.S. location and should be able to travel up to 25% to support convention planning, site visits, and on-site event execution.

The Senior Convention Planning Specialist develops and executes convention strategies for assigned business sectors while serving as a strategic advisor to marketing, communications, and commercial stakeholders. This role leads convention planning activities, manages budgets and vendor partnerships, supports large and complex events, and ensures successful execution of convention programs that align with business objectives and customer engagement goals.


Primary Responsibilities

  • Lead convention strategy, planning, and execution for assigned business sectors to support marketing, sales, and commercial objectives.
  • Consult with business stakeholders to evaluate convention opportunities, recommend participation strategies, and optimize event investments.
  • Partner with marketing, communications, and sales teams to develop convention plans, messaging, and customer engagement strategies.
  • Manage exhibit logistics, including space selection, exhibitor services, vendor coordination, shipping, installation, dismantle activities, and on-site execution.
  • Develop and manage convention budgets, forecasts, and expenses to ensure financial accountability and budget compliance.
  • Coordinate convention-related meetings, sponsored programs, and communications to support event objectives and attendee engagement.
  • Collaborate with industry associations, exhibitor advisory committees, and external partners to support business needs and convention initiatives.
  • Ensure convention activities comply with Medtronic policies, AdvaMed guidelines, association regulations, and applicable legal requirements.

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma/GED and 8+ years OR Associate Degree and 6+ years OR Bachelor's Degree and 4+ years of experience in convention management, event management, marketing operations, communications, or a related business function.
  • Experience managing budgets, forecasts, project expenses, and vendor relationships.
  • Experience partnering with cross-functional stakeholders and managing multiple concurrent projects.
  • Ability to travel up to 25%.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience planning and executing conventions, congresses, trade shows, exhibits, or large-scale corporate events.
  • Experience supporting healthcare, medical device, pharmaceutical, or life sciences convention programs.
  • Knowledge of AdvaMed guidelines, healthcare compliance requirements, and association regulations.
  • Experience managing large or complex exhibits, sponsored programs, and multi-business convention initiatives.
  • Experience partnering with professional associations, exhibitor advisory committees, or industry organizations.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and event management platforms.

For Baccalaureate degrees earned outside of the United States, a degree that satisfies the requirements of 8 C.F.R. § 214.2(h)(4)(iii)(A) is required.

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):$78,400.00 - $117,600.00

This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).
