Data Engineer – Azure Databricks / Python / Streaming

We are looking for an experienced Data Engineer to join a data engineering project for a banking client.

The role is based in Budapest with a highly flexible hybrid setup and up to 80% home office.

Project details:

Work engagement: Full-time, hybrid and contractor-type

Location: Budapest, Hungary

Remote work: up to 80% (1 day per week office work)

Start: September 2026

Initial project end: December 2026

Language: English; German is an advantage

Your responsibilities:

You will contribute to the development, modernization and migration of data pipelines within a cloud-based data platform.

The role involves working with batch and real-time data processing solutions, supporting existing data flows and helping migrate or enhance current implementations.

Depending on your background, you may also be involved in analyzing existing Java-based components and legacy solutions.

Required skills and experience

• Proven professional experience as a Data Engineer

• Strong hands-on experience with Databricks, ideally Azure Databricks

• Strong Python development skills

• Experience developing and migrating data pipelines

• Experience with streaming and event-driven data processing

• Hands-on knowledge of Kafka and/or Azure Event Hub

• Strong understanding of cloud-based data platforms

• Experience within the Microsoft Azure ecosystem

• Good understanding of real-time data processing concepts

• Professional working proficiency in English

Nice to have:

• Apache Druid experience

• Apache Storm experience

• Java knowledge, particularly for understanding existing or legacy solutions

• Experience with web analytics data

• CI/CD, DevOps or DataOps experience

• Previous involvement in data migration or modernization projects

• Experience working in Agile / Scrum environments

• German language skills

What we are looking for

We are particularly interested in pragmatic Data Engineers who are comfortable working with existing systems and building and migrating modern data pipelines.

A strong background in Azure Databricks, Python and streaming technologies is more important than having experience with every technology listed above.
