What we need

At Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts, we have an exciting opportunity for a Data Engineer to join our Data Delivery team. The primary focus of this role is to design, develop, and maintain our IBM Planning Analytics (TM1) models and applications to enhance our financial planning, forecasting, and reporting capabilities. You will play a crucial role in supporting strategic business decisions by working alongside senior engineers and finance stakeholders to build robust data solutions.

This position is open to candidates based in Massachusetts as well as remote, US-based candidates.

Your Day to Day

• Design and build forecasting/budgeting applications using Planning Analytics 2.0.9 or above.

• Design and build PA cubes, dimensions, hierarchies, rules, and TurboIntegrator processes using Planning Analytics Workbench (PAW).

• Experience writing complex MDX statements, rules and feeders.

• Experience with data ingestion and transformation from ODBC data sources and publish data for consumption related to TM1 cubes, dimensions, hierarchies, rules, and TurboIntegrator (TI) processes to support actuarial models including claims projections, financial forecasting, and expense allocation.

• Experience in building applications in TM1 web, PAW and Perspectives (TM1 combined with VBA), build dynamic reports.

• Experience in working with IBM Cloud Planning Analytics applications and migration of applications from TM1 to PA.

• Follows best practices and architecture patterns as part of all implementations

• Builds deep understanding of healthcare data domains through process ownership, data exploration and hands-on SQL development. Develop a holistic understanding of how various components within the TM1 environment interconnect, acting as a proactive technical partner who makes strong, creative recommendations for implementing complex solutions.

• Designs & develops data quality, data masking, data curation & extraction processes for appropriate data usage. Oversee TM1 security configurations, user access groups, and server performance monitoring.

• Provides operational support to high severity issues and incidents impacting critical data pipelines. Build, maintain, and distribute active forms, slices, and web sheets via TM1 Web or Planning Analytics Workspace (PAW) for business unit leaders.

• Ideates & builds common data processing utilities leveraging modular development methodologies

• Delivers high quality and scalable code with automated test coverage

• Helps grow and mentors team members on the fine art of data engineering and software abstractions. While also working closely with the Actuarial teams to translate complex business planning rules into automated TM1 system logic.

We’re Looking for:

• 5-7 years of data engineering experience with at least 5+ years of experience as an IBM Cognos TM1 / Planning Analytics Developer (PAW, PAX).

• 5+ years of experience with cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, Google

• 5+ working with Rules, Feeders & worksheets.

• 5+ working experience in MDX.

• TM1 Development: Strong mastery of TurboIntegrator (TI) scripting and TM1 Rules (DB functions, Feeders).

• Excel Mastery: Advanced Excel skills, including VBA, Active Forms, and complex financial modeling.

• Health Care Domain working in Budgeting and Forecasting is preferred

What You Bring:

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Finance, Math, Information Systems, or a related field.

• Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the proven ability to express complex technical concepts effectively to non-technical finance stakeholders.

• Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with keen attention to detail.

• Ability to multi-task, self-motivate, and meet critical financial reporting deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

• Healthcare industry experience is preferred.

The job posting range is the lowest to highest salary we in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range, and the range may be modified in the future. An employee’s pay position within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, performance, shift, travel requirements, sales or revenue-based metrics, and business or organizational needs and affordability.

This job is also eligible for variable pay.
