Senior Data Engineer (m/f/d)

Vienna – full-time – immediate start

We are looking for a highly skilled and motivated Senior Data Engineer (m/f/d) to support shaping the data platform behind AI-powered medical imaging analysis for pharmaceutical services. In this role, you will design scalable cloud architectures, automate analysis pipelines, and build reusable tools that make it easier to bring new studies, devices, and indications onto the platform. You will combine strong Python and SQL skills with data engineering or backend/platform experience to deliver reliable, secure, and traceable results. Working closely with colleagues across teams, you will guide technical decisions, mentor others, and turn complex requirements into practical solutions.

Your Role/Responsibilities

  • Define scalable architectures for the ingestion, validation, transformation, versioning, and delivery of medical imaging data, annotations, and analytical outputs.
  • Design and automate retrospective AI analysis pipelines for pharmaceutical services, including configuration, curation, execution, quality checks, and standard outputs.
  • Develop reusable interfaces, APIs, schemas, and shared-data-platform components that simplify onboarding of new studies, devices, and indications.
  • Implement orchestration, scheduling, dependency management, retry handling, monitoring, and alerting for cloud-based pipelines.
  • Establish data-quality rules, lineage, metadata, audit trails, and observability for reproducible and traceable results.
  • Apply security, privacy, access-control, retention, CI/CD, and infrastructure-as-code practices; optimize reliability, scalability, performance, and cloud cost.
  • Lead architecture and code reviews, resolve platform issues, align interfaces across teams, mentor colleagues, and maintain technical and validation documentation.

Your Profile

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Engineering, Information Technology, Mathematics, Biomedical Engineering, or another closely related quantitative or technical field. Equivalent senior professional experience may substitute for a formal degree.
  • 5+ years of data-engineering or backend/platform experience, including production-grade cloud pipelines and services
  • Expert Python and SQL skills with strong data-modeling, database, object-storage, schema-evolution, and high-volume-processing knowledge
  • Hands-on experience with orchestration platforms such as Airflow, Prefect, Dagster, or comparable technologies
  • Strong cloud, containerization, CI/CD, monitoring, and infrastructure-as-code experience. Experience with AWS, Azure, AWS CDK, or Terraform are advantageous.
  • Demonstrated use of data-quality, lineage, observability, idempotency, recovery, API, and data-contract patterns
  • Healthcare, medical-imaging, privacy, clinical-research, or regulated-development experience together with technical leadership is highly desirable
  • Strong communication skills in English

Our Offer

  • Room for your own ideas and possibility to grow in your role
  • Friendly and supportive team culture that values diversity
  • Hybrid work model (home office + in-person collaboration)
  • Flexible working hours for better work–life balance
  • Well-equipped workplace in a charming office in central Vienna
  • Public transport support
  • Regular team-building events
  • Fully stocked kitchen with snacks and drinks
  • Access to digital mental well-being platform
