Senior Data Engineer - Platform

Location: Madrid, Spain (Hybrid: 4 days in office / 1 day remote)

At Ebury, our ambitious strategic growth plan is powered by data. We are seeking a Senior Data Engineer to join our Data Platform team in Madrid.

Our mission is to build, maintain, and continuously evolve Ebury's Data Platform—focusing on scalable, robust, and innovative core frameworks that empower data teams and business units across the entire company.

What You Will Do

  • Architect & Scale: Oversee the end-to-end design, development, and maintenance of a central, high-performance Data Platform used across Ebury.
  • Drive Innovation: Explore and integrate emerging technologies and open-source frameworks to expand our data capabilities.
  • Collaborate & Empower: Partner with internal stakeholders (Data Scientists, Analytics Engineers, BI leads) to deeply understand platform requirements and deliver actionable solutions.
  • Govern & Secure: Establish and enforce data governance, quality standards, and access policies to ensure platform security and reliability.

Our Tech Stack

  • Cloud Infrastructure: Google Cloud Platform (GCP) — BigQuery, Cloud Run, Cloud Functions, GKE
  • Orchestration & Modeling: Apache Airflow, dbt, Dimensional & Graph Data Modeling
  • Engineering Tools: Python, SQL, Docker, CI/CD, Git, Open Source Tooling

What We Are Looking For

  • Proven experience designing, building, and operating production data platforms, data lakes, and cloud data warehouses at scale.
  • Advanced proficiency in Python (for data transformation, validation, and tooling) and SQL (for large-scale query optimization).
  • Deep expertise in traditional modeling for both structured and unstructured data. (Graph database modeling is a strong plus!)
  • Hands-on experience with GCP or equivalent cloud ecosystems (BigQuery, serverless compute, containerization).
  • Self-motivated, highly curious, and proactive about staying on the bleeding edge of data architecture and open-source practices.
  • Professional fluency in English. (Spanish is a plus!)

Don't check every box? Apply anyway!

If you’re excited about this role but your experience doesn't align 100% with every bullet point, we still strongly encourage you to submit your application. You may be the exact candidate we need for this or future positions.

What We Offer

  • Competitive Compensation: Attractive base salary plus performance-based discretionary bonus.
  • Growth & Certifications: Dedicated budget and time for continuous training, certifications, and personal development.
  • Open Source Culture: We follow open-source principles internally and actively encourage contributions to external projects.
  • Modern Hybrid Working: Great office dynamic in Madrid with the flexibility of working from home.
