We invite a Senior Database Administrator with deep MySQL expertise to join a large-scale database modernization initiative within a Java microservices platform. The project involves upgrading production databases to a newer MySQL version, with a strong focus on system reliability, performance, and minimal user disruption. In this hands-on, high-impact role, you’ll lead end-to-end database migration activities and work closely with engineering, DevOps, QA, and architecture teams to ensure a smooth and successful transition. This is a 6-month engagement with the possibility of extension based on project needs. 🟩 What's in it for you: Lead a production MySQL migration, owning strategy and execution in a live, high-scale environment Work on a business-critical platform with 100k users, where your decisions directly impact performance, reliability, and user experience Collaborate across engineering, DevOps, QA, and architecture teams, solving complex, real-world migration challenges ✅ Is that you? 5+ years of hands-on MySQL Database Administration experience in production environments Proven experience with major MySQL version upgrades or large-scale database migrations Strong expertise in MySQL internals (indexing, query optimization, partitioning, replication, and transaction behavior) Strong SQL skills with the ability to troubleshoot complex performance issues Hands-on experience administering Linux or other Unix-like OS, with scripting skills in Bash, Python, or similar languages Experience with managed cloud database services (Cloud SQL, Amazon RDS, or equivalent) Experience with production database operations (backup/restore, high availability, disaster recovery, failover) Ability to plan and execute database changes with minimal downtime Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively across technical teams Strong communication skills and ability to lead technical discussions Desirable: Good understanding of Java application environments, JDBC, and microservices database interactions Experience migrating microservices-heavy platforms with shared and service-specific databases Familiarity with MySQL 8.4 features and upgrade considerations Experience with monitoring and observability tools for database operations Knowledge of database security, encryption, and compliance best practices Experience with automation, infrastructure-as-code, and database tooling Experience as a Tech Lead for database modernization initiatives 🧩Key responsibilities and your contribution In this role, you'll lead the end-to-end migration of MySQL databases from 5.7 to 8.4, ensuring system stability, performance, and minimal downtime.
