Role Overview You will work closely with product designers and engineers to build a multi-product design system for Lokal’s mobile-first ecosystem. This role is not limited to creating a UI kit. We are looking for someone who can think in systems, architecture, tokenization, scalability, theming, and engineering implementation. The initial focus will be on 2–3 products before expanding into a larger multi-product ecosystem. Responsibilities Core System Definition and Components Lead the end-to-end definition and evolution of foundational systems, tokens, themes, and components: Foundations: Define and improve core visual systems including color, typography, spacing, semantic tokens, accessibility foundations, interaction principles, and usability standards to support light/dark modes and multi-product theming. Token Architecture: Architect a multi-level token structure (Global, Semantic, Component, Theme-level) optimized for React Native, Compose Multiplatform, and legacy Android ecosystems, with an initial focus on React Native. Component System: Refine and standardize the mobile-first component library (Buttons, Inputs, Cards, Bottom Sheets, Navigation, Banners, Toasts, Empty States, etc.) to ensure high reusability, flexible variants, and consistent patterns across products. Theming & Consistency: Define theming rules and customization patterns across products while maintaining a consistent mobile experience across the ecosystem. Figma & Engineering Alignment Build scalable Figma libraries Structure variables and naming conventions properly Collaborate closely with engineers Support design-to-code workflows Ensure implementation feasibility Create practical documentation covering component usage, naming conventions, token structures, contribution workflows, and scalability guidelines Code-ready token thinking and engineering understanding are strongly preferred. Requirements Must Have Strong experience building/scaling design systems Strong Figma systems expertise Experience with mobile-first products Deep understanding of design tokens and semantic systems Experience collaborating closely with engineers Strong documentation and systems-thinking skills Ability to think in scalable multi-product systems Good to Have Experience with React Native ecosystems Familiarity with Compose Multiplatform or native Android systems Experience with Tokens Studio, Figma Variables, Style Dictionary, etc. Experience with multi-product or multi-brand systems Startup experience Experience designing for Indian/Bharat users Portfolio demonstrating shipped or production-level design systems Contract Details Role Type: Contract Duration: Initial 6-month engagement Mode: Remote / Hybrid Start: Immediate preferred
