This role is responsible for driving the reliability, scalability, and security of our AWS cloud infrastructure while optimizing cloud costs and empowering developer self-service. You'll combine senior DevOps expertise with solution architect skill sets to design system architecture, provide innovative solutions for complex technical challenges, and work closely with product engineering teams and engineering leads to streamline deployment pipelines, maintain robust observability, and scale our SaaS platform efficiently. What You'll Do (Key Responsibilities) Own Cloud Infrastructure Design and Operations: Design, build, and maintain scalable, secure AWS infrastructure (with working exposure to Azure and Google Cloud) supporting a SaaS engineering organization of ~80 engineers — covering compute, networking, storage, and security architecture. Drive Cost Visibility and FinOps Practices: Implement and maintain cloud cost tagging, monitoring, and optimization practices; identify and execute on cost-saving opportunities across AWS (and secondary clouds); partner with engineering leads on cost accountability. Strengthen Reliability, Observability, and Incident Response: Build and maintain observability using Datadog (or similar) — logging, metrics, tracing, dashboards, and alerting; participate in on-call rotation; lead or support incident response and postmortems; drive down MTTR. Build and Improve Infrastructure Automation: Develop and maintain infrastructure-as-code (Terraform or equivalent), CI/CD pipelines, deployment automation, environment provisioning, and secret management to increase developer velocity and reduce toil. Enable Developer Self-Service: Build tooling and paved paths that let product engineers ship and manage their own services safely, reducing DevOps as a bottleneck. Apply AI-Enabled DevOps Practices: Evaluate and adopt AI-assisted tooling for infrastructure review, incident triage, anomaly detection, documentation, and CI/CD improvements, with appropriate security and change-management guardrails. Support Platform and Vendor Evaluation: Provide technical evaluation and hands-on implementation input for cloud, observability, security, and developer-tooling platforms (e.g., AWS, Datadog, Databricks); execute on integrations and configuration. Mentor and Raise the Bar: Mentor other engineers on infrastructure, reliability, and DevOps best practices; contribute to runbooks, standards, and technical documentation; review infrastructure and pipeline changes from peers. What You Bring (Critical Skills + Experience) 5+ years of hands-on experience in DevOps, SRE, platform, or infrastructure engineering, ideally in a SaaS environment, with demonstrated solution architecture experience designing highly available cloud systems and innovative solutions. Deep hands-on AWS expertise across architecture, security, networking, compute, storage, and cost management; AWS certification is a plus. Working familiarity with Azure and Google Cloud. Practical experience with infrastructure-as-code, preferably Terraform, as well as CI/CD pipelines, deployment automation, environment management, and secrets management. Working knowledge of FinOps practices, including cost visibility, tagging, forecasting, and cloud cost optimization. Strong production-operations and observability experience with Datadog or equivalent tools, including logging, metrics, tracing, alerting, and incident response. Experience using operational metrics such as deployment frequency, lead time, change failure rate, and MTTR to improve reliability. Experience with containerization and orchestration technologies such as Docker, Kubernetes, or ECS, along with policy-as-code and cloud governance. Proficiency in scripting and automation using Python, Bash, or similar languages. Working knowledge of AI-enabled DevOps workflows, including automation, infrastructure review, incident triage, anomaly detection, cost optimization, and developer self-service. Solid understanding of security fundamentals, including IAM, network security, secrets management, and vulnerability remediation. Comfortable owning production reliability for systems supporting multiple engineering teams, applying sound judgment to cloud, IaC, CI/CD, security, and governance standards. Strong written and verbal communication skills, with experience partnering cross-functionally with product and engineering teams and mentoring less-senior engineers. Compensation: In the spirit of transparency, we are excited to share the base salary for this position is $110,000 - $140,000 CAD and exclusive of fringe benefits or potential bonuses. If you are hired at ClearGov, your final base salary compensation will be determined by factors such as skills, interview performance, education and/or experience. In addition to those factors, we believe in the importance of pay equity and consider internal equity of our current team members as a part of any final offer. Please keep in mind that the range mentioned above is the full base salary for the role. Hiring beyond the base range would not be typical in order to allow for future & continued salary growth.
