Senior DevSecOps Engineer

Forty Nine Hundred (4900) is building the EU-native sovereign AI operating system: the governance and security platform that lets European organisations adopt AI with confidence, on cloud or fully air-gapped on-prem. We're moving fast to become the category-defining platform for AI governance in Europe.

The role:

As our first, full-time, dedicated infrastructure hire, you'll shape how our platform gets deployed, run and scaled, across our EU-sovereign cloud environment and fully air-gapped on-premises installations. This isn't a maintenance role: you'll be defining the reliability, observability and deployment practice that this company runs on for years to come, and your fingerprints will be on all of it.

Broadly, you'll:

• Build and own deployment for both cloud and on-prem/air-gapped delivery, end to end.
• Design and stand up our observability, alerting and on-call practice as a founding discipline.
• Own infrastructure-layer security posture, working hand-in-hand with our security engineering team.
• Work directly alongside the founding team.

What we're looking for / non-negotiables:

• Fully committed: this is a full-time role for someone looking to grow with us, not a side engagement.
• Senior-level production infrastructure experience, ideally including Kubernetes/container-based deployments.
• Real experience with, or genuine appetite for, on-premises/air-gapped deployment.
• Security-conscious by default: secrets management, least-privilege, patching discipline.
• Real fluency with AI tools day to day: AI-assisted coding, coding agents, LLM-based tooling as part of how you actually work, not something you dabble in.
• Someone who wants to build the foundation, not join one that's already set: real ownership, real say in how things get built.
• Fluent, confident English, spoken and written.
• Based near, and able to work hybrid from our Viana do Castelo HQ.

Nice to have:

• Recognised certifications are a plus: CKA or CKS (Kubernetes), HashiCorp Vault / Terraform Associate, CompTIA Security+ or CySA+, CISSP, GIAC (GCSA, GDSA, GCLD), RHCE, or ISO 27001 Lead Implementer / Lead Auditor. We care more about what you can do than what's on paper.
• Experience in regulated industries or with frameworks like NIS2, DORA or ISO 27001.
