The Senior Director for Epic Program & Patient Experience Technology provides leadership for Dana-Farber’s Epic program and related patient experience technology capabilities within Information Services, reporting to the Vice President for Epic & Clinical Hospital Operations. The role directs the Institute’s Epic portfolio for Epic-related work and associated patient experience technologies, including coordination with Dana-Farber’s Epic partner, Beth Israel Lahey Health (BILH). The position has enterprise scope across current outpatient operations and planning for the dedicated inpatient oncology hospital capabilities, including clinical mobility tools, patient engagement, and smartcare/smart hospital room features. This position establishes direction, governance, prioritization, and cross-functional collaboration and alignment for technology work that supports clinical, operational, and patient experience objectives.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead Dana-Farber’s Epic program and patient experience technology portfolio: Provide strategic and operational leadership across ambulatory operations and future inpatient planning, and by directing the strategy, planning, and execution of patient- and staff-facing technologies that support engagement, communication, mobility, and care delivery workflows in alignment with enterprise priorities, roadmap decisions, and future-state care models.
  • Direct governance and partnership with Beth Israel Lahey Health (BILH): Serve as the senior leader for coordination with Dana-Farber’s Epic partner on shared planning, decision-making, and execution. Establish governance structures, escalation pathways, and collaboration processes to support effective joint work. Influence internal and external stakeholders on priorities, tradeoffs, timing, and dependencies affecting operational performance and strategic outcomes.
  • Guide technology planning and readiness for the future inpatient hospital: Lead planning for inpatient-focused clinical and patient experience capabilities, including smartcare, smart room, mobility, and digital engagement solutions. Partner across Information Services, operational leadership, clinical stakeholders, and other functions to define scope, dependencies, governance, and implementation timing for future-state inpatient technology initiatives.
  • Provide oversight of delivery, operational performance, and risk across the portfolio: Establish expectations and standards for program oversight, status reporting, issue management, escalation, and delivery performance across multiple initiatives and workstreams. Make recommendations related to resource allocation, sequencing, and risk mitigation within established governance and budget parameters. Ensure work is executed in a way that supports reliability, scalability, and alignment with Institute priorities.
  • Lead teams responsible for Epic program and patient experience technology delivery: Direct a function that includes project managers, clinical business analysts, and other team members supporting operational support, build coordination, requirements analysis, business case development, testing strategy, and related program delivery activities. Ensure team efforts remain aligned with governance decisions, portfolio priorities, and changing organizational needs.
  • Drive cross-functional communication, stakeholder engagement, and influence: Build and maintain strong working relationships with Information Services, clinical and operational leaders, patient experience stakeholders, and external partners. Communicate strategy, decisions, risks, dependencies, and impacts clearly to support alignment, resolve competing priorities, and enable coordinated execution across teams.
  • Supervise, develop, and support staff: Recruit, lead, and develop a high-performing team. Set clear expectations, provide coaching and feedback, evaluate performance, and promote accountability for quality, efficiency, and compliance with organizational policies and procedures. Foster staff engagement, professional growth, and a collaborative, inclusive work environment.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with senior leaders and cross-functional stakeholders in a large, highly complex, matrixed organization.
  • Knowledge of the relationships and operational interdependencies among clinical, operational, patient experience, and Information Services functions as they relate to program planning and execution.
  • Ability to lead an enterprise Epic and patient experience technology portfolio with accountability for strategy, governance, prioritization, and execution oversight, within a shared governance framework.
  • Ability to balance immediate operational needs with long-term strategic priorities, particularly in environments undergoing growth, transformation, or hospital planning.
  • Ability to assess organizational impact and make sound recommendations based on clinical, operational, technical, financial, and stakeholder considerations.
  • Ability to build alignment across internal and external stakeholders and drive coordinated action on initiatives with significant operational and strategic implications.
  • Ability to make sound decisions within broad strategic guidance, anticipate risks, identify when escalation is needed, and balance competing priorities and constraints.
  • Ability to integrate Epic strategy with patient experience technology planning to support cohesive workflows and improved patient and staff experience.
  • Ability to lead and develop high-performing teams and future leaders through organizational ambiguity, foster engagement, and create a collaborative and productive work environment.
  • Ability to communicate with credibility and influence at all levels of the organization, including executives, clinicians, operational leaders, and external partners.

Minimum Job Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required in Business, Information Technology Management, Healthcare Administration or related field of study.
  • Master’s degree in Business, Information Technology Management, Healthcare Administration or related field of study preferred.
  • 10 years application/platform implementation delivery experience, with progressively increasing responsibility and scope of initiatives managed, with proven ability to drive teams to meet objectives.
  • 8 years of people management experience, including direct supervision of staff.
  • Experience in healthcare, academic medical center, or clinical operations settings.
  • Progressive leadership experience in a complex environment with responsibility for enterprise technology/program oversight, governance, prioritization, cross-functional coordination, and staff leadership.
  • Experience with overseeing aspects of an Epic program

License/Certification/Registration Required: None

Supervisory Responsibilities: Oversees Sr. Manager for Epic Clinical Applications & CRM, Sr. Manager Epic Revenue Cycle, Manager of Epic Scheduling & Clinic Operations, and additionally will oversee the manager of Clinical Mobility, Manager of SmartCare Environment.

Pay Transparency Statement

The hiring range is based on market pay structures, with individual salaries determined by factors such as business needs, market conditions, internal equity, and based on the candidate’s relevant experience, skills and qualifications.

For union positions, the pay range is determined by the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).
