Show job description

Help shape the future of finance across the University of Virginia and UVA Health. The Senior Director, Finance will lead complex, enterprise-wide initiatives that strengthen financial operations, modernize systems, and advance the One UVA vision.

This remote leadership role is designed for an accomplished finance professional who can work at scale, bring clarity to complex challenges, and turn strategic priorities into sustainable solutions. Reporting to senior UVA Health finance leadership, the Senior Director will operate at the intersection of finance, accounting, treasury, technology, data, and organizational transformation.

The Role

The Senior Director will serve as a senior finance leader and strategic problem solver, partnering with leaders across the University and UVA Health to address initiatives that cross organizational, functional, and system boundaries. The role requires the ability to move comfortably between executive-level strategy and detailed financial, accounting, data, and systems analysis.

In this role, you will:

  • Lead enterprise finance transformation connected to One UVA, Workday, and broader financial modernization efforts.
  • Guide cross-functional teams in simplifying, standardizing, automating, and strengthening financial processes across the enterprise.
  • Provide finance leadership for the implementation, stabilization, optimization, and enhancement of Workday financial functionality.
  • Translate complex financial and operational requirements into practical system and process solutions, accounting for upstream and downstream impacts.
  • Identify and resolve system limitations, integration challenges, data issues, process gaps, and control considerations.
  • Establish scalable governance structures, operating processes, controls, and measures of success.
  • Lead initiatives addressing general ledger reconciliation, financial data integrity, and data flow across systems and organizational entities.
  • Partner with Finance, Accounting, Treasury, Information Technology, Tax, and operational leaders to improve the quality, timeliness, and usability of financial information.
  • Support stronger treasury projections, cash and liquidity reporting, forecasting methodologies, and integration between financial systems and treasury processes.
  • Lead the design of a comprehensive pan-enterprise intercompany framework that strengthens accounting, reporting, reconciliation, and controls while reducing unnecessary complexity.
  • Facilitate decisions where accounting requirements, operational needs, technology capabilities, data structures, and organizational responsibilities intersect.
  • Anticipate the broader financial, operational, technological, and organizational effects of proposed changes.
  • Develop executive-level communications that translate complex financial and technical matters into clear business decisions.
  • Own initiatives from problem definition and solution design through implementation, stabilization, and continuous improvement.

Success in this role will require enterprise systems thinking, sound financial judgment, change leadership, and the ability to build alignment in a highly matrixed environment. The ideal candidate will bring at least 10 years of relevant professional experience supporting an academic medical center or integrated healthcare system, along with a bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field. A related master’s degree and CPA licensure are preferred.
