Position Summary:
The Senior Director, Insights & Analytics will lead the development and delivery of actionable commercial insights that inform Satsuma Pharmaceuticals’ brand strategy, launch planning, and ongoing commercial execution. This individual will oversee market research, competitive intelligence, forecasting, business analytics, and performance reporting, translating diverse data sources into clear recommendations that support strategic decision-making. The Senior Director will serve as a strategic thought partner to Commercial leadership and collaborate closely with Marketing, Sales, Market Access, Medical Affairs, Finance, and Commercial Operations. The successful candidate develops and provides commercial insights and analytics strategy, vision, and direction across the organization, cascading company-wide analytics policies and practices and providing input to executive management, with decisions carrying long-term impact on the company’s commercial strategy and market performance.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead the Commercial Insights & Analytics function, establishing a data-driven approach to business and brand decision-making.
Oversee design and execution of primary and secondary market research through external partners, ensuring findings translate into segmentation, positioning, and treatment-behavior insights that inform brand strategy.
Lead competitive intelligence efforts to monitor competitor strategies, clinical developments, market dynamics, and emerging opportunities and risks.
Partner with Marketing, Sales, Market Access, Finance, and Commercial Operations to develop forecasts, scenario analyses, KPIs, dashboards, and performance reporting.
Translate market research, customer insights, syndicated data, and other analytics into clear, actionable recommendations for commercial strategy and execution.
Serve as the primary business partner to IT for the commercial data warehouse and BI platform — defining business rules, metric definitions, and requirements, prioritizing enhancement requests, and validating new reports and dashboards before release.
Owns the Commercial dashboards and reporting: KPI dashboards, self-service reporting tools, data quality management and translating data into actionable insights for Sales, Market Access, Marketing and Executive decision making.
Establish and monitor key performance indicators to assess brand and commercial performance and identify opportunities for optimization.
Support launch planning and lifecycle management through market sizing, customer segmentation, targeting, opportunity assessment, and performance analytics.
Work with Sales Operations to support Sales Force sizing/alignment and incentive compensation tracking.
Partner with Finance and Commercial leadership on forecasting, business planning, and long-range planning assumptions.
Evaluate and implement advanced analytics, predictive analytics, and emerging data capabilities to enhance commercial decision-making.
Manage external research partners, analytics vendors, and consultants, including project scope, budgets, timelines, and deliverables.
Serve as a trusted advisor to senior leadership, effectively communicating complex analyses and insights through compelling, data-driven storytelling.
Build strong cross-functional partnerships and foster a culture of insight generation, analytical rigor, and informed decision-making.
Anticipate factors that could influence the company’s commercial insights and analytics strategy and market position, providing strategic direction across functional areas to support long-term business and commercial success.
Partner with executive leadership to cascade company-wide insights and analytics policies and practices, ensuring consistent adoption and alignment with organizational goals.
Lead and develop the Insights & Analytics organization through subordinate managers and team members, overseeing the successful execution of company-wide initiatives.
Proactively identify, assume, and execute additional responsibilities, initiatives, and special projects as business needs evolve.
Minimum Requirements Education/Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Life Sciences, Economics, Statistics, or a related field required; advanced degree preferred.
12+ years of experience in commercial insights, analytics, market research, forecasting, strategy, or a related function within the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry.

Demonstrated ability to develop and articulate company-wide insights and analytics strategy, vision, and direction, with the ability to anticipate emerging risks and their impact on business success.
Proven experience negotiating and influencing at the executive level, partnering with leadership to align insights and analytics strategy with organizational goals.
