The Role

We are seeking a Senior Director, Revenue, a new leadership role at IonQ. This is a high-impact position responsible for the integrity of our global revenue lifecycle. Reporting to the VP, Global Controller, you will build and lead a specialized revenue team through the complexities of hardware builds, government contracting, and commercial and manufacturing scale. You will be a strategic partner to Finance, Sales, and Legal leadership, helping architect the deals and the team that will power the quantum future. Your work will be central to our mission of building the world's best quantum computers to solve the world's most complex problems, transforming business, society, and the planet for the better.

Responsibilities

  • Architect Revenue Strategy & Policy: Serve as a primary technical advisor to Sales, Deal Desk, and Legal during contract negotiations, optimizing commercial terms across quantum products and manufacturing streams in alignment with ASC 606 and company objectives.
  • Build & Lead the Team: Build and lead a high-performing revenue team, including Manager- and Senior Manager-level staff, establishing structure, hiring plans, and career pathing as the team grows.
  • Own Complex Accounting: Hold ownership of revenue recognition for complex, multi-year hardware builds and manufacturing environments, including percentage-of-completion (POC) accounting, cost-to-cost models, and estimate-at-completion (EAC) reviews.
  • Cross-Functional Partnership: Serve as the bridge between Finance and Operations, ensuring engineering milestones and supply chain costs translate into accurate, defensible revenue recognition.
  • SOX & Governance: Own the relationship with external auditors on revenue recognition matters, including technical memos and audit/SOX-ready documentation; prepare materials on revenue positions for Audit Committee or executive review as needed.
  • M&A & Integration Leadership: Serve as the revenue lead for M&A activities, performing pre-acquisition due diligence on revenue streams and owning post-acquisition integration of acquired contracts into IonQ's global ASC 606 policies and systems.
  • System Innovation: Partner with IT and Business Applications leadership to optimize ERP (NetSuite) and CRM infrastructure, driving automation of revenue recognition and reporting.

Requirements

  • 13+ years of progressive accounting/finance experience, including several years operating at the Director or Senior Director level owning a revenue or technical accounting function within a publicly traded technology, aerospace/defense, or hardware manufacturing company.
  • Proven experience leading a team of Managers and/or Senior Managers, with accountability for a growing, multi-person revenue function.
  • Deep expertise in ASC 606, including multiple element arrangements, point-in-time and over-time revenue recognition criteria, and cost-to-cost input models for long-term builds.
  • Track record scaling a revenue function, including integration of acquired companies and automation of manual revenue processes.
  • Demonstrated ability to advise and influence Sales, Legal, and Finance leadership, translating complex accounting standards into actionable business guidance.
  • Proficiency in cost-to-cost modeling and project-level data analysis to ensure accurate revenue forecasting and recognition across a growing portfolio.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA license required. MBA or advanced degree an advantage.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior Director-level or above experience at a top semiconductor or computing component company or Tier 1 government contractor (e.g., Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman, Leidos, etc.).
  • Big 4 public accounting background within audit or technical accounting advisory.
  • Familiarity with quantum computing and a demonstrated interest and ability to learn technical concepts.


The approximate base salary range for this position is $220,000 to $275,000. The total compensation package includes base, bonus, equity, and a range of benefit options found on our career site.

Compensation will vary based on individual factors such as education, qualifications, and experience of the final candidate(s), specific office location, and calibration against relevant market data and internal team equity. Posted base salary figures are subject to change as new market data becomes available.
