We are seeking an experienced Senior Donation Coordinator to serve as a subject matter expert in tissue donation while helping develop, mentor, and support the next generation of donation professionals. This role combines advanced donor evaluation and family authorization responsibilities with leadership, training, quality auditing, and process improvement. Position Summary The Senior Donation Coordinator manages tissue and eye donation referrals, conducts donor suitability assessments, and partners with donor families, hospitals, funeral homes, and community stakeholders throughout the donation process. This individual serves as a senior resource within the Communication Services Department, providing mentorship, training, quality assurance oversight, and operational leadership to ensure exceptional service, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement. What You'll Do Donation Coordination & Donor Evaluation Evaluate potential tissue donors through detailed review of medical and social histories. Conduct donor suitability assessments utilizing medical terminology, disease process knowledge, and established regulatory guidelines. Communicate with donor families to discuss donation opportunities and secure authorization when appropriate. Advocate for organ, tissue, and eye donation while providing compassionate support to families experiencing loss. Collaborate with healthcare professionals, funeral homes, coroners, law enforcement, and other partners involved in the donation process. Leadership, Training & Mentorship Serve as a senior subject matter expert for tissue donation practices and regulatory requirements. Mentor, coach, and train Donation Coordinators and other team members. Audit donor evaluations, documentation, recorded calls, and department processes to ensure compliance and quality standards. Deliver constructive feedback and support employee development initiatives. Assist in developing training materials and departmental education programs. Quality & Process Improvement Promote a culture of excellence, compliance, and continuous improvement. Identify opportunities to improve workflows, processes, and departmental performance. Support implementation of operational improvements and quality initiatives. Ensure adherence to organizational policies, HIPAA requirements, and applicable regulatory standards. Requirements What We're Looking For Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Health Sciences, Nursing, Social Work, Public Health, or a related field; or equivalent experience. Minimum three years of experience in a clinical setting, preferably as an EMT, Paramedic, Registered Nurse (RN), or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). Minimum three years of experience as a Donation Coordinator or in a similar role within the organ procurement organization (OPO) industry. Experience reviewing medical records and assessing donor suitability. Familiarity with electronic medical records (Epic, Cerner, Meditech, or similar systems). Strong knowledge of medical terminology and disease processes. Preferred Qualifications Certified Tissue Banking Specialist (CTBS) certification. Experience auditing quality processes, documentation, or regulatory compliance programs. Prior coaching, mentoring, training, or leadership experience. On-call responsibilities may be required. Must be available to work a minimum of 40 hours per week and provide coverage as operational needs require. Occasional travel may be required.
