The Role

Since its inception in 1992, SUSE has been at the forefront of technical innovation where change has been the only constant.

The primary responsibility of this position is to lead technical direction and execute critical, large-scale web engineering initiatives across SUSE’s global digital experience platform. As a Level 08 Master Individual Contributor, you operate autonomously within the digital experience domain, navigating deeply intricate problems with long-term implications, playing a strategic role in shaping organizational priorities, and driving company-wide web strategies.

This will support business growth in line with our ambitious objectives and company culture by architecting core front-end platforms, establishing enterprise-grade design systems, and driving performance standards. Critical to achieving excellent results will be your strategic vision, ability to resolve deeply complex technical challenges, and influence over key technology choices and engineering standards across the business.

The role sits within the Digital Experience function, reporting to the Engineering Manager / Senior Manager, Digital Experience, who is globally based.

Focus Areas

• Optimizely Front-End Engineering: Architect and build scalable, responsive B2B web experiences in Optimizely CMS, translating complex designs and content models into high-performance web components and personalized user journeys.
• Modern Web Standards & Performance: Apply deep expertise in HTML, CSS, JavaScript/TypeScript, and modern frameworks to deliver accessible, fast, cross-browser compatible, and maintainable codebases.
• Design Systems & Component Governance: Own and scale Optimizely component libraries, defining design-system architectures, coding standards, accessibility benchmarks, and reusable UI patterns.
• Personalization & Dynamic UX: Partner with UX, marketing, and digital strategy teams to implement dynamic content, experimentation, and audience-targeted web experiences.
• AI Adoption & Front-end Innovation: Leverage emerging AI tools and workflows to accelerate frontend development, automate content operations, and optimize digital customer experiences.

Preferred Experience & Skills

• 5+ years of front-end software engineering experience delivering large-scale, high-impact digital experiences or enterprise web applications.
• Mastery of modern front-end web technologies: Expertise in JavaScript (ES6+), TypeScript, React, Next.js, HTML5, modern CSS methodologies, and modern build/bundling systems.
• Proven ability to lead technical architecture and establish enterprise-grade front-end design systems and component libraries.
• Demonstrable experience leading complex, cross-functional engineering projects with company-wide reach and long-term business impact.
• Solid understanding of web performance optimization, Core Web Vitals, web security fundamentals, and internationalization (i18n).
• Excellent communication and strategic influence skills with the ability to articulate architectural decisions, navigate organizational ambiguity, and build consensus with executive leadership.
