About the Role

You'll fully own the strategy and execution of lifecycle and transactional messaging across the user journey, from onboarding to winback, from product updates to re-engagement nudges. This is a full-ownership role reporting directly to the Director of Marketing and close collaboration with Analytics, Product, and Engineering. Your goal: drive activation, boost retention, and bring users back with communications that resonate.

In your first 90 days, you'll be expected to get up to speed on our current lifecycle program, identify opportunities for improvement, and begin acting on the highest priorities.

What You'll Do

Own the messaging strategy across the customer journey

Plan and maintain the roadmap for lifecycle and transactional communications, from onboarding to winback and everything in between, proactively surfacing new opportunities as you go.

Build and optimize communication flows

Create and manage journey logic using behavioral triggers, segmentation, and conditional rules, directly in platforms like Iterable and SendGrid. Propose new touchpoints and improve existing ones based on performance and insights.

Protect sender reputation and deliverability

Apply core deliverability practices — list hygiene, send warm-up, engagement-based segmentation, and monitoring — especially for large-volume sends, staying ahead of early warning signs of reputation or inbox-placement issues.

Own quality control end-to-end

Serve as the final check before anything reaches users — proofing copy, links, formatting, and rendering across devices. High attention to detail is essential, since errors caught after send affect real users and brand trust.

Own execution from brief to send

Write, build, and execute email content, layout, and visuals yourself, bringing in writers, designers, or AI tools when that's the faster or better path. You know what to send and why.

Leverage analytics to improve performance

Work closely with the Analytics team to track engagement, conversion, and retention. Use data to inform strategy, test hypotheses, and prioritize optimizations.

Stay sharp on tools and trends

Keep up with best practices in lifecycle marketing, experimentation, personalization, and platform capabilities.

What We're Looking For

Experience & Expertise

  • 3–5+ years managing high-impact email marketing and lifecycle communications, ideally in a fast-paced B2C environment.
  • Experience emailing to a large-scale US consumer audience, with native or near-native fluency in English and a strong command of copywriting tailored to US consumer tone and expectations.
  • Solid working knowledge of email deliverability fundamentals — sender reputation, list hygiene, warm-up practices, and general best practices for maintaining inbox placement.
  • Proven track record of independently identifying problems and proposing solutions within a lifecycle program.
  • Hands-on experience with major platforms like Iterable, Braze, SendGrid, or similar.
  • Skilled in segmentation, personalization, automation, and journey logic for lifecycle campaigns.

Technical & Creative Skills

  • Strong messaging instincts. You know how to brief effective copy, give clear feedback, and make communications resonate.
  • Sharp eye for detail — comfortable QA-ing your own templates and catching issues (formatting, broken links, inconsistent tone) before anything goes live.
  • Familiar with email structure and layout; HTML skills preferred but not required, as AI and human HTML support is available.
  • Analytical thinker, comfortable reviewing dashboards, spotting trends, and turning insights into action.
  • Fluent with ChatGPT/Claude, integrating them naturally into your daily workflow for writing, editing, and problem-solving.
  • Curious and iterative — you like testing, learning, and improving what's already working.

Professional Strengths

  • Strategic thinker and hands-on doer, comfortable owning outcomes with support available as needed.
  • Self-motivated and reliable — takes initiative, communicates proactively, and stays organized in a remote, fast-moving startup environment.
  • Open to feedback and iterates quickly based on it.
  • Collaborative and positive, works well across teams with clarity and empathy.

Perks & Benefits

  • Base monthly salary $2,500 USD + performance bonuses
  • Generous stock options
  • Healthcare stipend
  • Unlimited paid time off
  • 100% remote!
  • Meaningful impact: help shape the future of privacy protection
