WE ARE LOOKING FOR SENIOR EMBEDDED SOFTWARE ENGINEER – AUTOMOTIVE RTOS

We are looking for a Senior Embedded Software Engineer to join our team supporting multiple generations of automotive electronic control units (ECUs).

You will work with existing embedded software, adapting it to support hardware design changes, component qualification and hardware validation. Working closely with hardware and software teams, you will investigate issues and help identify their root causes on RTOS-based automotive platforms.

This is a remote role, with some flexibility required for meetings in the late evening.

What You Will Do

  • Understand and work with the existing software codebase, build pipeline and regression tests.
  • Adapt existing software and develop or modify test routines to enable hardware validation.
  • Support the evaluation of hardware design changes and replacement components.
  • Investigate issues together with architecture, hardware and software teams to identify hardware, software or configuration causes.
  • Run regression tests to verify changes and check that existing functionality continues to work.
  • Work with project leads to plan tasks, communicate findings and meet agreed timelines.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related field.
  • 5+ years of embedded software experience on microcontrollers, such as Infineon or NXP devices, including Arm-based devices.
  • Strong expertise in FreeRTOS, SafeRTOS or an equivalent real-time operating system.
  • Programming skills in C/C++ for bare-metal and RTOS environments, and Python/Rust.
  • Hands-on experience with board bring-up and low-level drivers for peripherals such as SPI, I2C, UART, CAN, Ethernet, GPIO, timers, ADC/DAC and external memories.
  • Experience with hardware debugging tools and interfaces, such as Lauterbach debuggers, JTAG, oscilloscopes and logic analyzers.

NICE TO HAVE

  • Background in platform or board support package (BSP) development for MCU-based ECUs, including clock configuration, device configuration and hardware abstraction layers.
  • Experience with hardware components such as sensors and gate drivers.
  • Familiarity with the Infineon SDK and toolchain.
  • Awareness of ISO 26262 functional safety.
