Context

SYSTRA Ltd is looking for a Senior Civil Engineer to support the delivery of client projects through effective engineering leadership and technical coordination. This role offers the opportunity to work on challenging schemes while helping to ensure both client needs and business objectives are achieved.

You will lead engineering tasks and support the management of Engineers, Designers, Graduates and Apprentices within the discipline, contributing to the efficient and effective delivery of projects. This is a strong opportunity for an experienced civil engineer who enjoys combining technical delivery, team support and client-focused project performance.

Missions/Main Duties

  • Lead and contribute to the design and integration of projects, ensuring client commitments are met and delivery is achieved to agreed quality, time and budget targets.
  • Monitor project team performance against contractual obligations and quality requirements, taking appropriate corrective action where needed.
  • Manage the checking and approval process to ensure compliance with Client, project and SYSTRA procedures.
  • Prepare and review engineering designs and calculations, taking responsibility for the management of design production.
  • Ensure project requirements are effectively communicated to the team.
  • Act as Work Package Manager on small to medium-sized projects where required.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of all technical standards relevant to the discipline.
  • Support business development, bidding and marketing activities to help maximise team and company opportunities.
  • Apply procedures and systems to ensure the safety of staff and others affected by SYSTRA operations throughout the design lifecycle.
  • Promote compliance with all relevant health, safety and environmental legislation.
  • Contribute to company-wide goals and business improvement initiatives.
  • Promote SYSTRA’s behavioural framework by fostering a culture of excellence, collaboration, respect and empowerment.

Profile/Skills

  • Demonstrable ability to communicate effectively across multiple levels and with a wide range of stakeholders, presenting and discussing proposals, justifications and conclusions.
  • Experience as a Line Manager is desirable.
  • Experience working with offshore production centres is desirable.
  • Confident working across multi-disciplinary projects.
  • Proven ability to deliver business results through effective planning and implementation.
  • Experience in project planning, delivery, budgets and timescales.
  • Able to fulfil the role of Contractor’s Responsible Engineer on Network Rail projects, or a comparable role in non-rail environments.
  • Strong knowledge and application of safety standards and CDM regulations.
  • Ability to apply and demonstrate knowledge of civil engineering design principles and standards.
  • Ability to apply and demonstrate knowledge of construction principles and standards, including experience of project delivery in construction-related markets.
  • Experience working with contractors in a design and build environment.
  • Experience with the rail sector and the use of Network Rail procedures and standards is desirable.
  • Knowledge of software packages including MicroStation, Civils 3D, IdeaStatiCa, AutoCAD and Autodesk Robot.
  • Knowledge of Eurocodes and relevant civil engineering standards.
  • Degree qualified or equivalent in Civil Engineering, Civil Structures or Civil Environmental Engineering.
  • Actively working toward Chartered Civil Engineer (CEng) status with a relevant professional body such as ICE.
