Senior FastAPI Engineer

Senior FastAPI Engineer Come build the backend that makes production AI actually work - fast, reliable and ready to scale. We’re working with a fast-growing AI company looking for a Senior FastAPI / Python Engineer to take ownership of the backend powering its AI products. You’ll build the APIs, data pipelines and orchestration layer connecting the product with LLMs, working across retrieval, tool-calling, response streaming and long-running background jobs. This is far beyond traditional CRUD development — you’ll be solving complex problems around AI reliability, performance, scalability and confidential data, with genuine ownership over architecture and technical decisions. Must Haves 7+ years building backend systems in production 6+ years Python 3+ years FastAPI Strong PostgreSQL / SQL 2+ years Redis Strong experience designing and building production APIs Experience with async / distributed systems and background processing Strong understanding of reliability, scalability and production performance Comfortable taking end-to-end ownership of backend systems Experience using AI coding tools such as Claude Code, Cursor or Copilot Comfortable working in a fast-moving startup environment Nice to Haves Experience building LLM-powered applications RAG / retrieval systems Vector search / vector databases AI agents and tool-calling LangChain or LlamaIndex SSE, WebSockets or other streaming technologies Document ingestion and embedding pipelines Microsoft Graph Email integrations Experience integrating with external document/storage platforms Experience handling confidential data within production AI systems Department Backend Developer Locations Multiple locations Remote status Fully Remote Applicant tracking system by Teamtailor
