About Us
At CIPFA, we're driven by a singular purpose: to transform lives through exceptional public financial management. As a leading international accountancy body, we champion integrity, transparency, and efficiency in the use of public funds. We believe that every pound spent should deliver tangible improvements to public services, creating a better future for individuals and communities worldwide. Join us in shaping a world where public money truly makes a difference.
About the Role
CIPFA is expanding its CIPFA Advisory department and looking for a Senior Financial Consultant. This is an exciting opportunity for anyone looking for a new challenge and working with high profile public and government bodies. You will be key in helping the team and the wider public sector understand their financial and non-financial challenges, answering the ‘so what’ question and helping the sector and market improve its financial resilience. You will work as part of a wider Advisory team. We are currently focused on helping the sector with their financial and operational challenges, service improvement (Transformation) and property services. By working with the wider CIPFA Advisory and Policy team, you will help clients assess their financial resilience and develop bespoke data requirements as well as collecting, validating, analysing, and disseminating data and reports to customers across the full range of CIPFA Solutions products.
About You
You’ll be highly motivated, comfortable challenging conventional thinking, and always looking to introduce smarter ways of working. You’ll be confident defining business needs, developing technical requirements, and proposing practical, value‑adding solutions. You will already have significant experience either working within the public sector in a finance role or supporting the public sector as a consultant. Crucially, you’ll bring a well‑established network of contacts across the public sector, enabling you to build strong relationships and help expand CIPFA’s reach and support to public sector organisations. You’ll also share our values of being accountable, open, fair‑minded and supportive, and will be comfortable acting as a trusted adviser to senior stakeholders.
Key tasks include but not limited to:
• Supporting the design, development, and delivery of the wider CIPFA Advisory services strategic plan.
• Providing CIPFA Advisory input to corporate initiatives across all service delivery areas including Policy and Marketing.
• Providing an external voice for CIPFA Advisory services at conferences, seminars, and workshops.
• Providing support and advice on the development of CIPFA Advisory approaches, ensuring they are relevant, and market driven.
• Build, manage and develop external relationships with key individuals and organisations across the public sector.
• Working with Chief Executives, Directors of Finance, Politicians, Non-Executive Directors, and senior staff across the public sector to grow the presence and impact of CIPFA.
• Supporting the development of integrated Advisory solutions that are appropriate and fit for purpose for the public sector.
• Effectively prepare proposals for support and presentations.
• Identifying and negotiating schedules, milestones, and resources required to meet project objectives.
• Responsibility for the effective delivery of projects on-time, on-budget and within scope meeting or exceeding the stakeholder expectations.
