Senior Fire Safety Advisor - North

We now have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Senior Fire Safety Advisor to join our Fire Safety Team within the North. This is an excellent opportunity for a fire safety professional who enjoys combining technical expertise with leadership responsibilities, helping to shape fire safety strategy while supporting and developing others.

About the Role

As a Senior Fire Safety Advisor, you will play a key role in ensuring fire safety compliance across a diverse NHS property portfolio throughout the North of England. Acting as a subject matter expert, you will provide professional fire safety advice to colleagues, customers and senior stakeholders, whilst supporting the delivery of our fire safety programme across complex healthcare environments.

This is a varied role that combines hands-on fire safety responsibilities with people leadership and strategic influence. Alongside undertaking and reviewing Tier 1 Fire Risk Assessments at higher-risk and more complex sites, you will line manage a team of Fire Safety Advisors, support their development, and act as an escalation point for technical and compliance matters.

You will also contribute to strategic fire safety initiatives, helping to interpret legislative changes, develop best practice, and support continuous improvement across the business.

Who You Are

You are an experienced fire safety professional with a recognised fire safety qualification and a strong understanding of fire legislation, risk assessments and compliance management. You combine technical expertise with excellent people skills and are confident leading teams, influencing stakeholders and managing challenging conversations when required.

You are resilient, professional and approachable, with the ability to balance operational delivery, strategic thinking and leadership responsibilities. Most importantly, you understand that successful compliance management is built on strong relationships and effective communication.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead on fire safety compliance activities across a portfolio of NHS properties within the North region.
• Undertake and review Tier 1 Fire Risk Assessments and fire safety inspections across complex healthcare sites.
• Provide expert fire safety advice and guidance to operational teams, customers and senior stakeholders.
• Act as a technical escalation point for fire safety and compliance-related queries.
• Lead, coach and develop a team of Fire Safety Advisors, supporting performance, wellbeing and professional growth.
• Support the management of sites across the region, ensuring compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements.
• Review fire-related risks and provide recommendations on mitigation, remediation and compliance solutions.
• Contribute to national fire safety forums and working groups, helping to shape policy, process and legislative interpretation.
• Build strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders to promote fire safety best practice.
• Support fire-related incidents and provide professional guidance where required.
• Can handle routine tasks and social interactions within a work environment. Ability to absorb policy and guidance necessary for the role.

What You'll Bring

• Minimum Level 3 Fire Safety qualification (essential).
• Extensive experience carrying out Fire Risk Assessments.
• Strong working knowledge of fire legislation, fire safety guidance and compliance requirements.
• Previous line management or team leadership experience.
• Excellent communication, influencing and stakeholder management skills.
• Experience managing difficult conversations and supporting team performance.
• Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel across the North region.
• Degree in Fire Engineering, Fire Safety or a related discipline, or equivalent fire sector experience (desirable).
• Level 4 or Level 5 Fire Safety qualifications (desirable).
• Experience gained within healthcare, public sector, private sector or Fire & Rescue Services environments.
• Membership of a professional organisation (e.g. the Institution of Fire Engineers (IFE) or National Association of Healthcare Fire Officers (NAHFO))

Where You'll Be

This is a home-based role covering the North of England, with regular travel to customer sites and NHSPS locations across the region. Candidates can be based anywhere within the North, with flexibility to work remotely, from home, on-site and from local NHSPS hubs as required.

This is a 12-month fixed-term contract, working full-time, 37.5 hours per week. While currently offered as a fixed-term opportunity, this role supports a long-term business requirement and therefore has strong potential for extension or permanency in the future.
