About the company
A fast-growing, well-funded healthcare AI company building a single, AI-native platform that handles the full administrative and clinical workflow burden for hospitals and health systems, ambient documentation, provider copilots, autonomous coding, and revenue cycle automation.
The platform already operates at genuine enterprise scale, supporting hundreds of thousands of clinicians and billions of dollars in claims across hundreds of healthcare organizations nationwide. The company has grown rapidly over the past two years and is backed by top-tier investors.
The role You'll serve as the acting technical lead on high-impact healthcare AI deployments, paired with another engineer, architecting and shipping production solutions used by real clinicians at scale.
This is a genuine "field CTO" role: you'll work directly with executives at major health systems, translating messy, unstructured clinical and business problems into real technical products, then feeding what you learn back into the core platform so it becomes a scalable capability rather than a one-off fix.
What you'll do
- Serve as acting technical lead on high-impact healthcare AI deployments, architecting and shipping production solutions used by thousands of clinicians
- Own activated revenue outcomes, accelerating contract timelines, identifying expansion opportunities, and driving products from 0 to 1 to 10 to 100
- Work directly with executives at large health systems as a field CTO, translating unstructured clinical and business problems into technical products
- Build full-stack applications that integrate with EHR systems and process messy, non-standard healthcare data
- Rotate through engineering pods to build platform-wide context, then lead deployments in specific customer segments
- Integrate field learnings back into the core product so individual-client solutions become scalable platform capabilities
- Travel domestically to client sites for short on-site visits during active deployment phases
What you must bring
- 3–10 years of experience in forward-deployed or client-facing, full-stack software engineering
- Currently shipping production code in a client-facing capacity, not purely managing or overseeing implementation
- A track record of building and deploying 0-to-1 enterprise products in real customer environments, either from a venture-backed startup or an otherwise strong technical pedigree
- Proficiency in Python or Go on the backend and React on the frontend, at a technical bar equivalent to a standard software engineer
- Comfort working with messy, non-standard data
- Experience with system design, optimization, and API integrations in enterprise environments
- Willingness to work hybrid out of Mountain View, CA, with domestic travel of up to 15% per year
Nice to have
- Prior forward-deployed engineering experience, especially in healthcare
- A non-traditional background that demonstrates real grit, or entrepreneurial experience showing initiative and ownership
- A strong academic record (top school, high GPA, relevant internship experience)
Compensation & logistics
- $170K–$240K base salary plus competitive equity
- Hybrid: in-person at the Mountain View, CA headquarters, with flexibility to roughly three days a week in-office after an initial ramp-up period
- Remote consideration for exceptional candidates based in Los Angeles, Boston, Austin, or Phoenix, with 10–30% travel
- Up to 35% domestic travel to client sites during active deployment phases
- 5–7 openings
- Open to visa sponsorship, including visa transfers; candidates on STEM OPT need 2+ years remaining
This isn't the right fit if
- You're a solutions engineer, sales engineer, or pure front-end developer without real backend production experience
- You're a product manager without direct engineering accountability
- Your background is heavily AI/ML or infrastructure-focused without a strong core software engineering foundation
- Your experience is purely at large, established tech companies with no startup or client-facing ownership
- Your work history shows multiple short tenures or a pattern of frequent job-hopping
