Senior Full Stack Developer

Location: Edmonton, Alberta – Primarily Remote within Canada

Contract Duration: 12 months

Potential Extension: Up to 24 months

Hours: 36.25 hours/week

Work Arrangement: Primarily remote; occasional Edmonton attendance of up to 10% may be required.

Role Overview

We are seeking experienced Senior Full Stack Developers to contribute to digital transformation, service modernization, and software development initiatives.

The successful candidates will work within Agile, cross-functional teams alongside Product Owners, designers, and other technical professionals. Developers will contribute throughout the software delivery lifecycle, including research and discovery, technical design, development, testing, deployment, documentation, and ongoing enhancement.

Key Responsibilities

• Participate in technical discovery, research, and user interviews.
• Develop technical diagrams and supporting documentation.
• Design and develop modern full-stack software solutions.
• Develop new application features and functionality.
• Identify and resolve functional and non-functional defects.
• Perform automated unit and integration testing.
• Improve application code quality, tooling, documentation, and maintainability.
• Collaborate with frontend designers and UX professionals.
• Provide technical advice regarding implementation approaches.
• Support application deployment and launch.
• Develop reusable components and common capabilities.
• Participate in Agile ceremonies, backlog refinement, sprint planning, and execution.
• Maintain technical documentation and development standards.
• Support onboarding of technical team members.
• Continuously improve development and quality practices.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field; equivalent education may be considered.
• Minimum 5 years of Full Stack Developer experience working on complex software solutions in Agile environments.
• Minimum 5 years of experience using Git/source control in collaborative software development.
• Minimum 3 years of experience with automated unit and integration testing.
• Minimum 3 years of experience with database technologies, including relational databases and alternatives.
• Minimum 3 years of experience working on production applications using modern application frameworks and frontend JavaScript frameworks.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience modernizing legacy systems through incremental releases.
• Experience with Generative AI and agentic tooling.
• Experience with prompt design, RAG, AI workflow automation, and evaluation of AI-generated outputs.
• Experience with design patterns and software architecture.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines.
• Experience with government development guidelines and principles.
• Experience working with UX design, service design, design thinking, or human-centered design teams.

Work Arrangement

The position is primarily remote and work must be performed within Canada. Occasional meetings or work sessions in Edmonton may be required, up to approximately 10% of total hours.

Candidates must be available during standard working hours of 8:15 AM–4:30 PM Alberta time, Monday through Friday, excluding applicable holidays.

Some travel within Alberta may occasionally be required for field research or user interviews.

Security

Candidates may be required to complete criminal record checks and, depending on assignment, enhanced security screening. Certain assignments may require eligibility for higher-level security clearance.

Project Examples

Candidates should be prepared to provide two project examples demonstrating their Full Stack development expertise. Each example should include:

1. Project/assignment overview and the candidate's role.
2. Sector served and team size.
3. Specific skills, tools, and technologies used.
