This is an excellent opportunity for a SENIOR FULL STACK DEVELOPER – .NET / Azure / IoT – to join a global IoT tech company transforming how critical infrastructure is monitored and managed.

Based in CAPE TOWN (Hybrid) this SENIOR FULL STACK DEVELOPER role (.NET / Azure / IoT) offers a salary of R1.4m – R1.8m.

THE COMPANY:

This is a fast-growing international tech company building industrial IoT and remote-monitoring solutions for critical infrastructure. Their technology connects intelligent devices operating in demanding real-world environments with a sophisticated cloud platform, enabling organisations to monitor and manage assets across water, wastewater, rail, mining and industrial operations.

Think software + cloud + data + IoT + physical devices.

For a Senior Developer, they offer the opportunity to work at the intersection of software, cloud, data and IoT, solving complex engineering problems where the technology you build has a genuine, measurable impact in the physical world.

THE ROLE:

This is a hands-on, predominantly backend engineering role where you'll take ownership of major features and services across the full development lifecycle - from architecture and design through development, deployment and long-term production operation.

You'll build scalable backend services and APIs, shape domain logic, design integrations and work across the boundaries between cloud software, frontend applications and physical IoT devices.

You'll work closely with embedded engineers as new devices are introduced to the platform, designing software that accounts for how those devices actually behave once they're deployed in the real world.

You'll also have genuine architectural influence.

You'll be expected to challenge designs, make sensible engineering trade-offs and help determine how the platform evolves - balancing performance, security, reliability, scalability, cost and speed of delivery.

THE CORE ENGINEERING ENVIRONMENT INCLUDES:

C# / .NET • ASP.NET Core • REST APIs • TypeScript • SQL Server • Entity Framework Core • Azure • Infrastructure as Code • CI/CD • SaaS/PaaS • Microservices / Modular Monoliths

You'll also encounter architectural and distributed-system concepts including DDD, CQRS, event-driven architecture, event sourcing, idempotency, retries, eventual consistency, multi-tenancy, high availability and fault tolerance.

The Azure ecosystem includes technologies such as IoT Hub, Event Hubs, SignalR, Key Vault and Redis.

WHY IS THIS INTERESTING?

Because the software actually does something in the physical world.

The API you design, service you optimise or architecture decision you make doesn't simply disappear into another corporate application.

It's part of a technology platform connecting real devices, collecting real-world information and helping organisations manage important physical infrastructure.

You'll also be joining an international engineering organisation where senior developers are expected to think, challenge, design, mentor and own - not simply work their way through a backlog.

REQUIRED SKILLS:

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Software Engineering.

7+ years of full-time software development experience, including building and operating cloud environments in production.

Solid proficiency in backend and some frontend development, using C#/.NET, ASP.NET Core (Web APIs), RESTful APIs, and TypeScript.

Deep understanding of software engineering foundations, including data structures, algorithms, software design principles, version control, and collaborative development workflows.

Proficiency with SQL (including SQL Server query tuning and indexing) and/or NoSQL datastores. Preferably with experience using Entity Framework Core.

Experience designing and operating modular monolith and/or microservices-based cloud-native architectures, with understanding of CQRS, Dependency Injection, FluentValidation, JSON serialization, and the Task Parallel Library (TPL).

Extensive experience with cloud platforms, preferably Azure.

Strong understanding of SaaS and PaaS architectures, including multi-tenancy, high availability, and scaling patterns.

Hands-on experience with Infrastructure as Code (preferably Bicep), CI/CD pipelines (preferably Azure), and automated testing.

Working knowledge of cloud networking concepts, including hub-and-spoke networking, VPNs, SD-WAN, and firewalls.

Proven end-to-end ownership of systems across the full lifecycle, from architecture and design through long-term production operation.

Strong architectural and operational judgment, balancing delivery speed with reliability, security, performance, and long-term maintainability.

Proven ability to debug complex production issues, lead root-cause analysis, and implement durable fixes that reduce operational risk.

Experience leading significant architectural initiatives or cross-team technical efforts and influencing technical direction.

Demonstrated ability to mentor engineers, raise code and design quality, and lead effective design and code reviews.

Experience using AI-assisted development tools responsibly to accelerate delivery and improve solution quality.

Practical experience with advanced architectural patterns such as event-driven architecture, Domain-Driven Design (DDD), event sourcing, and distributed systems patterns (e.g. idempotency, retries, eventual consistency).

Deep understanding of resilience, fault tolerance, security requirements, and complex performance trade-offs in multi-tenant SaaS platforms.

Advanced performance tuning skills, including SQL query plan analysis and low-level optimisations (e.g. ValueTask, threading, and synchronization).

Experience with API lifecycle management and relevant services (Azure preferred) such as IoT Hub, Event Hubs, SignalR, Key Vault, and Redis.
