Indio builds its own AI and large-scale data products for the energy industry. We don't take on client work: our engineers build Indio's products, working directly with our stakeholders and alongside our data science team, and what we build goes to production. Our core algorithms are written in Rust. Parts of our work are confidential; we share more in interviews.
We keep the team small and the bar very high. If you're the engineer other engineers go to, we'd like to hear from you.
Remote from Pakistan · Full-time
- Hours: 8 AM–4 PM US Central, Monday to Friday (6 PM–2 AM Pakistan time, or 7 PM–3 AM from November to mid-March)
- Pay: in USD or your preferred currency, through Remote.com
- Competitive compensation
The role
You'll build complete features of our products, from the interface to the API to the data model. You'll turn our data science team's models and our core algorithms into fast, reliable tools that people use every day, working directly with the people who depend on them.
What you'll do
- Build data-heavy web apps end to end: large interactive tables, charts, and graph and map views
- Design typed APIs, background jobs and data models in Python and SQL
- Bring machine learning and language-model features into production workflows
- Leave tests, docs and monitoring behind, so the next engineer can change your code without a walkthrough
How we build
- Typed end to end, from the data model to the interface
- Performance-critical algorithms in a compiled core, with product services around them
- Models and features measured before they ship, and monitored after
- Tests, reviews and documentation as part of the work, not an afterthought
Required
- 6+ years shipping production web apps, including 3+ years responsible for features across the UI and the API
- Strong TypeScript and React, including server and client rendering and data fetching
- Strong Python for web services: typed schemas, async I/O, authentication and background jobs
- Relational data modeling and migrations you can defend
- Experience with multi-service systems (services talking over HTTP, caches, queues and workers), not only a single monolith
- Tests as a habit, on the backend and the frontend, not "we'll add them later"
- Clear written communication in English
Big plus: Rust
Production APIs or services written in Rust. Our core algorithms are in Rust.
Strongly preferred
- Graph databases, or non-trivial graph interfaces such as trees and canvases
- A major cloud platform in production
- Complex data interfaces: large grids, maps, document viewers and rich-text editing
- Real-time features
- Language-model features such as retrieval, embeddings and tool-using assistants (you don't need to be an ML engineer)
- Interactive time-series charts and analytical views over large tables
Nice to have
Geospatial data, advanced chart interactions, design systems, metrics and monitoring.
How to apply
Apply with your resume and a GitHub or portfolio link. If we move forward, we'll ask for a short note on a messy production problem you solved across the UI and the API.
