About Pling
Pling builds the operational backbone for medical practices, starting in dentistry: equipment management, regulatory compliance, team coordination, and service procurement. Profitable B2B SaaS, growing ~4x year over year, customers ranging from single practices to enterprise dental chains.
The mission
Pling's current application runs partly on Bubble — and we're rebuilding it in our own codebase, domain by domain, in parallel to live operations. This is the company's top technical priority, and we need serious senior engineering capacity to move fast.
This is not a 1:1 migration: nothing is ported from Bubble. Every domain is re-implemented cleanly in a new codebase — greenfield engineering on a proven, revenue-generating product.
The architecture is decided and documented. It's a deliberately hybrid setup:
- A regulated core on Python/Flask + MongoDB (GCP) — the proven, compliance-critical QM application that keeps running and provides central authentication and shared reference data
- New domains extracted one by one as independent TypeScript services (Nest.js · Prisma · PostgreSQL, deployed on GCP Cloud Run / Cloud SQL), each behind a stable, stack-agnostic OpenAPI contract — the seam that lets frontend and backend move in parallel
- A React frontend on our own design system
The rebuild follows a strangler-fig approach: each domain is carved out as its own service, embedded back into the live app via a proven integration pattern, and the corresponding Bubble piece is retired. The first domain (Tasks) is scoped and ready to build.
What we need now is execution firepower: someone who ships production-grade systems fast, without cutting corners on testing, security, or operability.
Depending on your experience, the scope grows with you — from building domain services within the defined architecture, up to co-owning architectural decisions and technically leading the rebuild alongside our CTO and external architecture advisors.
What you'll do
- Build new domain services end-to-end: data model, API, service implementation, integration into the live app
- Own quality across your services: testing, error handling, logging, monitoring, CI/CD
- Work AI-augmented by default: we build with Claude Code and expect disciplined, high-leverage use of agentic tooling
- Shape the technical decisions as each new domain is planned — within the established architecture
- Depending on seniority: co-own the architecture, shape the rebuild roadmap, and set the engineering standards the growing team will inherit
About you
Experience
- 6+ years building production software in fast-paced environments — backend center of gravity, but able to ship full-stack (React) when needed
- Strong TypeScript/Node.js in production (Nest.js a plus); working Python is valuable — our regulated core runs on Python/Flask
- Solid with PostgreSQL and API design; MongoDB basics helpful (our core runs on it); GCP experience a plus
- You've done rebuilds or re-platformings before — you know how to replace a running system without downtime or data loss
AI-native engineering practice
- Significant hands-on experience building software with AI coding agents (Claude Code, Cursor, or similar) — at scale, in a team, with guardrails
- You know what disciplined agentic development looks like: shared conventions, code review calibrated to AI-generated logic, testing and quality gates that keep output reliable
- You hate AI slop as much as you love AI leverage — you know when to let the agent run and when to take the wheel
Working style
- High agency: you operate independently, unblock yourself, and don't wait for permission to solve the problem in front of you
- Pragmatic about architecture: good engineering usually means removing complexity, not adding it
- Clear communicator — you explain trade-offs crisply to technical and non-technical founders alike
- Fluent English; German is a plus (our product and customers operate in German)
Bonus
- Project management or team lead experience — you can take coordination and delivery planning off our CTO's plate
The engagement
- Capacity: 3–5 days/week — the more, the better
