ABOUT THE ROLE

Banksia Health is looking for an experienced Senior Full-Stack Engineer / Technical Lead to take technical ownership of our internal platforms and systems.

This is not a role for someone who simply works through assigned development tickets.

We are looking for a senior engineer who can understand an existing production system, identify weaknesses, make sound architectural decisions, improve development standards and reliably deliver new functionality.

You will work hands-on across the application while also providing technical direction, reviewing development work and improving the way our software is designed, tested, deployed and maintained.

The successful candidate should also be highly capable with modern AI development tools and understand how AI can be practically incorporated into business software and internal workflows.

WHAT YOU WILL OWN

You will take responsibility for the technical performance and continued development of our software platform, including:

- Application architecture and technical direction

- Backend and frontend development

- Database design and optimisation

- API development and third-party integrations

- Dialler and telephony integrations

- CRM and operational workflow integrations

- Cloud infrastructure and production environments

- Deployment processes and CI/CD

- Application monitoring and error detection

- System performance and reliability

- Security, permissions and access controls

- Automated testing and quality assurance

- Technical documentation

- Code reviews and development standards

- Technical debt identification and remediation

- Investigation and resolution of production issues

- Estimation and planning of development work

- Reviewing and guiding the work of other developers

You will be expected to understand the business purpose behind what is being built rather than simply implementing specifications without questioning them.

AI & AUTOMATION

AI capability is an important part of this role.

We are looking for someone who actively uses modern AI development tools to increase engineering productivity while maintaining appropriate technical oversight.

You should be comfortable using tools such as:

- Claude Code

- OpenAI Codex

- Cursor

- GitHub Copilot

- Similar AI-assisted development environments

We are particularly interested in candidates who understand how to use AI for:

- Software development

- Debugging

- Code review

- Refactoring

- Test generation

- Documentation

- Development automation

- Internal business automation

- Data analysis

- Workflow improvement

Experience integrating AI models or APIs into production applications is highly regarded.

This may include experience with:

- LLM APIs

- Structured outputs

- Tool/function calling

- RAG and knowledge retrieval

- Vector databases

- AI agents and workflow automation

- Model evaluation

- Prompt architecture

- AI cost and latency management

We do not require an AI researcher or machine-learning specialist. We want an excellent software engineer who knows how to use AI effectively.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

You will ideally have:

- 7+ years of professional software development experience

- Strong experience building and maintaining production web applications

- Strong full-stack development capability

- Deep knowledge of APIs and system integrations

- Strong relational database and data-modelling skills

- Experience with cloud infrastructure

- Experience with CI/CD and automated deployments

- Strong debugging and production troubleshooting skills

- Experience implementing automated testing

- Strong understanding of software security principles

- Experience working with business-critical production systems

- Experience reviewing other developers' work

- Ability to make architectural decisions independently

- Ability to estimate development work realistically

- Strong written and spoken English

Previous experience in health technology, SaaS, CRM systems, telephony/diallers, workflow automation or high-volume transactional platforms would be advantageous.

WHAT MATTERS MORE THAN YEARS OF EXPERIENCE

We are less interested in how long you have held the title "Senior Developer" and more interested in what you have actually built and owned.

We want to understand:

- Systems you personally designed or significantly improved

- Difficult production problems you have solved

- Architectural decisions you have made

- Systems you inherited and subsequently improved

- Performance or reliability improvements you delivered

- Technical debt you identified and removed

- How you improved development processes

- How you use AI in your day-to-day engineering work

- Examples where you challenged an initial technical approach and proposed something better

You should be capable of looking at an unfamiliar codebase and quickly determining what is well designed, what is risky, what should be improved and what should be left alone.

3. Platform Improvement – 15%

- Reduction of technical debt

- Improved application performance

- Better development and deployment processes

- Improved architecture

- Better documentation

- Improved developer productivity

4. AI & Automation – 15%

- Effective adoption of AI development tools

- Automation of repetitive development or operational work

- Useful AI-driven improvements to internal systems

- Measurable productivity improvements achieved through AI and automation

Bonuses are based on overall performance and quality rather than simply the number of features released.

- Treats testing as optional

- Continually patches problems without investigating their cause

- Cannot explain their own code

- Relies heavily on AI-generated code without properly reviewing it

- Has seniority based primarily on tenure rather than capability

TECHNICAL ASSESSMENT

Shortlisted candidates will complete a practical technical assessment.

This will be based on a realistic software-development problem rather than algorithm puzzles.

Candidates will be encouraged to use AI and any development tools they normally use.

We are interested in evaluating:

- How you approach an unfamiliar problem

- The quality of your implementation

- Your architecture and engineering decisions

- Testing

- Error handling

- Security considerations

- Your use of AI

- Your ability to identify where AI-generated output is incorrect or inappropriate

- Your ability to explain and defend your technical decisions

Candidates may also be asked to review an existing piece of software and identify potential architectural, quality and production risks.

REMUNERATION

PHP 220,000–280,000 per month, depending on demonstrated capability and experience.

Exceptional candidates may be considered above this range.

The role also includes:

WORKING HOURS

The role is based in the Philippines and will work predominantly during hours that provide strong overlap with the Australian business day.
