Architect the Future of Logistics: Senior Full Stack Software Engineer

About Us:

Trimble is a leading provider of technology solutions that connect the physical and digital worlds. Transporeon, part of Trimble's Transportation & Logistics division, operates one of the world's largest freight collaboration platforms, processing millions of transport orders annually across global markets.

About the Role:

Join our Autonomous Procurement Carrier Experience team as a Senior Software Engineer to design and build full-stack features for the unified carrier product—loadboard workflows and autonomous quotation—on a production TypeScript application. You'll extend an inherited Helios codebase (React, Node, GraphQL) and integrate platform services such as Smart Tendering, while using AI-assisted development to ship safely and quickly. Our globally distributed, async-first team values autonomy, quality craftsmanship, and pragmatic problem-solving. We prioritize deep work by defaulting to Slack & Notion for collaboration, keeping synchronous meetings to a purposeful minimum. We ship iteratively, prioritize clear communication, and believe in raising the engineering bar through continuous engineering excellence and career development.

About Autonomous Procurement & Carrier Experience:

You'll help own solutions that power our carrier-facing experience—enabling carriers to discover and respond to loads and to run autonomous quotation (rules, live quoting, and related workflows). The product direction unifies board and quoting in one coherent application rather than splitting them across disconnected tools.

Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement highly available, scalable backend services and APIs that orchestrate complex carrier and quotation workflows across distributed systems (GraphQL and REST; service-to-service communication; event-driven architectures)

  • Architect resilient service designs and data models that handle high-volume transaction processing, ensuring performance under load and graceful degradation

  • Continuously improve reliability, performance, and scalability through profiling, observability, and load testing

  • Implement comprehensive security, data protection, and fault-tolerance patterns for critical carrier and procurement operations

  • Build and operate asynchronous processing pipelines (workers/jobs, event consumers) for quoting outcomes, notifications, and related automation

  • Design caching strategies, database optimization, and service orchestration patterns to achieve strong response times at scale

  • Build, test, and ship user-facing web experiences with high performance and accessibility

  • Contribute to architecting and designing scalable frontend architecture within an existing production app

  • Own entire features from specification to shipping, including technical planning, estimation, and rollout—including extending and modernizing a large inherited codebase

  • Collaborate with product managers and designers to shape solutions and deliver iteratively (including information architecture and UX improvements, not only visual polish)

  • Work effectively with a high degree of autonomy in a globally distributed, async-first team

  • Participate in code reviews, raise engineering standards, and reduce technical debt through pragmatic refactors

  • Leverage AI-assisted development tools to accelerate feature delivery, refactoring, and debugging while maintaining code quality, test coverage, and system observability

  • Mentor other developers and help establish coding standards and best practices

Requirements:

  • 5+ years of professional software engineering experience, including meaningful ownership of production systems

  • Strong written communication skills and comfort working asynchronously across time zones

  • Comfort extending and operating a large existing production codebase (not greenfield-only)

  • Strong backend experience building services in TypeScript / Node.js in cloud or containerized environments (AWS, GCP, or Azure—experience in any one is fine)

  • Experience with modern Node backend patterns and tools (e.g. Koa or Express-like frameworks, Apollo GraphQL or equivalent, TypeORM or similar ORMs, Vitest/Jest or similar)

  • Solid database skills with PostgreSQL (schema design, indexing, query performance)

  • Experience designing and consuming GraphQL APIs (schema design, resolvers, error handling, auth patterns); REST experience is a plus

  • Familiarity with distributed systems and microservices architecture; ability to reason about tradeoffs

  • Experience with (or clear adjacent experience toward) event-driven systems—Kafka strongly preferred (or comparable queues/pub-sub and consumer patterns)

  • Experience using AI-assisted development tools (e.g., Cursor, GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, Gemini CLI etc.) to accelerate delivery while maintaining high engineering standards (clear intent, good tests, safe changes, and debuggable code)

  • Solid frontend experience building modern web apps (React preferred; Angular/Vue acceptable)

  • Deep understanding of JavaScript/TypeScript, HTML, and modern CSS; strong UX/UI instincts and accessibility basics

  • Experience with CI/CD, testing strategies (unit/integration/e2e), and code quality practices

Bonus points for:

  • Kafka in production (consumers, producers, failure modes, observability)

  • Elasticsearch (or similar search/analytics stores)

  • Containers and orchestration: Docker, Kubernetes

  • Multi-cloud familiarity (AWS / GCP / Azure)—helpful for cross-pod work, not a hard filter

  • Auth/tenancy patterns: OIDC/OAuth, JWT, SAML, multi-tenant B2B SaaS

  • Vite, React Router, CSS-in-JS or utility CSS systems (e.g. vanilla-extract)

  • Observability: Datadog, New Relic, CloudWatch, or similar

  • Experience shipping B2B SaaS products in complex domains (logistics, procurement, marketplaces)

  • Prior Python/Flask/Celery experience (useful for collaborating with adjacent services)—not required for this role’s primary stack
