About the Role
We are seeking an experienced full-stack engineer with a passion for social impact to help build a nimble, global emergency response program. In this role, you will design and deliver technology that helps nonprofit partners secure emergency housing, grows a global supply of free or discounted housing for people in crisis, and supports fundraising efforts. You will join a small, collaborative team in a fast-moving space, where priorities can shift quickly in response to world events and policy changes. The work you ship will directly support communities when they need it most.
Key Responsibilities
- Partner with product, design, data, and operations colleagues across every stage of product development.
- Envision and build new capabilities that help nonprofit partners arrange emergency housing for the people they serve.
- Develop tools that expand a global supply of free or discounted housing and support donation efforts.
- Work with engineering and data teammates to break longer-term projects into clear, deliverable milestones.
- Use data insights and research to identify opportunities for improvement and advocate for them.
- Ramp up quickly in large, unfamiliar codebases to deliver program-specific features within an established product ecosystem.
- Adapt quickly as responsibilities evolve in response to emerging global needs.
Qualifications
Required
- 8+ years of professional software engineering experience.
- Proven experience designing, implementing, and deploying long-term initiatives in collaboration with cross-functional partners.
- Strong full-stack development experience, ideally with React and TypeScript on the front end and Java or Kotlin on the back end.
- Solid understanding of engineering best practices, continuous integration, and incremental delivery.
- Expertise in designing and scaling APIs and the services behind them.
- Comfort using data insights and user research to make the case for product improvements.
Preferred
- Demonstrated interest in social impact or mission-driven work.
- Familiarity with GraphQL.
- Fluency in HTML, CSS, and related web technologies.
- Strong design and user experience sensibilities.
