Senior Full-Stack Software Engineer – AI-Assisted Development

Twenty8 is hiring a Senior Full-Stack Software Engineer specializing in AI-Assisted Development to join an innovative project for the European Commission.

We are looking for an experienced software engineer with strong expertise in full-stack development, Generative AI coding assistants and agentic software development.

The ideal candidate combines solid software engineering skills with hands-on experience integrating AI-powered tools into development workflows, modernising legacy applications, and implementing secure, scalable solutions.

This opportunity is open to both on-site and remote candidates, provided they meet the technical requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain production-grade full-stack applications using modern development technologies and AI-assisted coding practices.
• Develop front-end interfaces, back-end services, RESTful APIs, and database integrations.
• Use AI coding assistants and autonomous or semi-autonomous agents for development, debugging, refactoring, testing, and documentation.
• Lead the modernisation of legacy applications through AI-assisted development approaches.
• Plan and implement Human-to-Agent codebase transitions, preparing existing repositories for secure agentic development.
• Configure and integrate Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers and clients with enterprise development environments.
• Design and implement agentic workflows for software development, testing, code review, and continuous improvement.
• Apply prompt engineering, context engineering, and Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) techniques to improve AI-assisted development.
• Integrate applications and AI-assisted development workflows into CI/CD pipelines and DevSecOps processes.
• Ensure code quality, application security, maintainability, and compliance with data-protection requirements.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and support the adoption of AI-assisted development practices.

Technical Requirements

We are looking for candidates with strong hands-on experience in:

Full-Stack Development

• Java, Spring Boot, Hibernate.
• Drupal and PHP.
• JavaScript, TypeScript, HTML, CSS.
• Angular, React, Vue.js, or equivalent.
• RESTful APIs, OpenAPI/Swagger.
• Relational and NoSQL databases: PostgreSQL, Oracle, MongoDB.

Generative AI & Agentic Development

• Practical experience with AI coding assistants such as GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, Cursor, Amazon Q Developer, JetBrains AI, or equivalent.
• Strong understanding of Large Language Models (LLMs) and their application to software engineering.
• Hands-on experience with Model Context Protocol (MCP), including MCP servers, clients, and enterprise integrations.
• Prompt engineering and context engineering for software development.
• Agentic workflows, including automated code generation, debugging, testing, and code review.
• Experience preparing and modernising legacy codebases for AI-assisted development.
• Knowledge of RAG, embeddings, semantic search, and codebase indexing.
• Experience with AI platforms and model APIs such as Azure AI, AWS Bedrock, OpenAI, Anthropic, or Google Vertex AI.

Cloud, DevSecOps & Software Engineering

• Cloud platforms: AWS and/or Azure.
• CI/CD pipelines and Git-based development workflows.
• Docker, Kubernetes, and containerised environments.
• Infrastructure as Code: Terraform, CloudFormation, or Azure Bicep.
• Automated testing, static code analysis, and secure software development.
• Authentication and authorisation: OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, JWT.
• Knowledge of AI-specific cybersecurity risks, application security, and software supply-chain security.

Certifications – Considered an Asset

• AWS Certified Developer or Microsoft Azure Developer Associate.
• Recognised Generative AI or AI Engineering certifications.
• DevSecOps, secure software development, or cloud security certifications.

Additional Skills

• Experience mentoring developers and promoting AI-assisted development practices.
• Excellent communication and documentation skills.
