What is this role about? McGraw Hill, the leading provider of digital and print educational resources, is looking for a Senior Instructional Designer, Dual Literacy (ELA/SLA) for our K-12 division literacy programs.
This is a remote position but can also be based in one of our McGraw Hill offices, open to applicants authorized to work for any employer within the United States. This is a Project Status Worker (PSW) role with an end date of 08/31/2027.
You will be a valuable member of a collaborative group of Instructional Designers, closely partnering with teams focused on content, product management, UX, and creative media. As part of this team, you will create robust digital tools, curriculum and learning solutions in a variety of formats that are used by millions of educators and students every day. You are a digital savvy content and curriculum expert, responsible and accountable for assembling high-quality content based on specific product requirements for the Dual Literacy programs.
What you will be doing:
- Lead concept meetings and reviews Instructional Designers' and Associate Instructional Designers' work during alpha and beta builds, ensuring consistency and alignment to guidelines.
- Strong contributions to the product build process, including QC on both English and Spanish language digital assets; identify new ways to improve workflows and team capacity, with minimal guidance from leadership.
- Create, finalize, and maintain build documentation, guidelines, digital workflow, and best practices; independently manage specific product workstreams and identify efficiencies.
- Work on digital product tasks such as metadata tagging, concept mapping, script go-bys, and digital editing.
- Provide informal training and mentorship to associates and mid-level team members, under the direction of management.
- Apply accessibility standards and best practices throughout the product development process to ensure compliance and proposing resolution for issues.
- Contribute in cross-functional discussions, program planning, and curriculum mapping within an Agile framework to ensure that product requirements, project schedules, and product goals are met and completed on time.
- Lead digital launches with vendors and freelancers, including reviewing and finalizing templates, trackers, and digital content development guidelines; ensure all deliverables expectations are met.
- Contribute to the creation of POC’s and hi-fidelity prototypes, identifying key features to prototypes to reduce overbuild and anticipate risk.
- Support user testing by interpreting results and making strategic recommendations, serving under the leadership of management.
- Collaborate with cross-functional team members to identify, test, troubleshoot, and follow up on technical issues in authoring tools and the platform; suggest ideas about potential causes and solutions.
- Identify, pilot, and scale novel digital solutions for issues that arise during development.
We’re looking for someone with:
- Bachelor’s or Master's degree in Instructional Technology, Instructional Design, or related field required.
- Experience working with Spanish-language materials; prior experience as a Spanish, ESL, SLA, or dual-language teacher is a plus. A successful candidate may have previous K-5 teaching experience.
- 4+ years' experience working in digital content development that includes teaching and learning materials.
- Experience leading multiple projects within tight deliverables and budgets.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to navigate ambiguity and influence trade-off decisions across scope, quality, time, and resources.
- Experience creating learning experiences with authoring tools, learning management systems, and content management systems, with a demonstrated ability to proactively develop and share best practices in content authoring.
- Anticipate project challenges and bring risks to the attention of leadership with proposed solutions.
- Solution-oriented mindset with a focus on practical, effective problem-solving.
- Curiosity about emerging technologies, including AI, and their application to instructional design and content development.

The pay range for this position is between $62,000 - $75,000 annually, however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and location. Click here to learn more about our benefit offerings.
