We're looking for a Senior Internal Communications Specialist (Content) to join our Internal Communications team. This is an exciting moment to join us as we build a new team and undergo a period of organisational change. This role is initially for 12-month fixed term contract.
Working closely with the Senior Internal Communications Specialist (Channels), you'll partner with key business areas to support them to deliver effective communications strategies to bring the RSC's vision to life. You’ll also work on our internal communications review, ensuring we have a refreshed approach to content creation across, informed by what colleagues tell us works for them.
While we are looking for someone who can use tools to create engaging visual and audio content, this isn't a graphic design role.
What you will be doing:
- Act as an internal communications business partner to key business areas
- Partner with leaders and senior managers to shape joined-up communications that tell a compelling story of our impact, building skills across teams and working closely with the other Senior Internal Communications Specialist to keep support consistent organisation-wide
- Champion effective change communications
- Help colleagues understand what organisational change means for them, using frameworks such as Weick's theory of sense-making to ensure change communication is rooted in human behaviour
- Develop an Internal and Change Communication content strategy
- Draw on survey and focus group insights from our communications review to build a data-informed content strategy that strengthens everything we produce, from written to audio to visual
- Contribute to positive team culture and ways of working
- Plan our work so it is joined-up and sequenced for maximum engagement, share learning openly and help shape a team culture that lives out our values
- Inclusion and accessibility
- Embed best practice in accessible communications and run regular audits of published content for bias, jargon and readability
- Measurement and continuous improvement
- Test content, track content KPIs and use the insights to keep refining our content strategy
At the RSC we embrace flexibility and offer hybrid working, which means you can split your time between home and one of our two UK offices located in Cambridge and London. Teams come together in person when they need to collaborate, so you will attend the office as business need requires. If you need flexible working arrangements, please outline this in your application.
What we are looking for:
Essential:
- Demonstrable experience in a strategic communications role, designing, delivering and measuring campaigns
- Proven track record of strategic content planning and governance
- Hands-on experience creating written and digital content for multiple formats (articles, scripts, stories, GIFs, infographics)
- Exceptional writing and storytelling skills, adaptable to diverse audiences
- Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills
- Ability to distil complex information into clear, engaging content
- Collaborative mindset; experience working with cross-functional teams
- Meticulous attention to detail and editorial rigour
- Proactive, curious and comfortable with ambiguity in fast-moving environments
Desirable:
- Experience in an internal communications setting
- Familiarity with plain-English / plain-language frameworks
- Basic video-editing or podcast-production skills
- Understanding of change management principles (e.g. ADKAR, Bridges)
- Data-driven mindset; familiarity with basic analytics tools and techniques
- Passion for professional development
- Enthusiastic about mentoring or coaching junior content creators
If you are interested in this role, please apply before the end of the closing date. When applying, you will need to provide an up-to-date CV and as a cover letter (in no more than 500 words) telling us about your relevant knowledge, skills and competencies and why you are applying for this role.
