Senior IT Technician

Company: CenCom, part of the Owlis Group

Location: TN5 7JR, with travel to client sites

Work pattern: Full time in the office during the six-month probation period, then hybrid with 3 days per week in the office

Hours: Monday to Friday, 08:30 to 17:30

Driving licence: Full UK driving licence required, as the role includes client site visits

About the role

If you enjoy getting your teeth into projects and complex technical problems rather than working through a ticket queue, this role is for you. As a Senior IT Technician at CenCom, you will own the more interesting end of managed services: onboarding new clients, delivering migrations and platform integrations, and resolving the escalated issues that need real depth across the Microsoft stack. You will be the person who looks at a new client environment, understands its risks, and turns it into something secure, standardised and supportable.

You will work closely with our Technical Delivery Manager and Helpdesk Manager, and you will be the person our technicians turn to for guidance. This is a senior, hands-on technical role where your expertise is visible and valued.

What you will be doing

  • Delivering client onboarding, migration and integration projects across Microsoft 365, Entra, Intune, Defender, networking, VoIP, backup and client infrastructure.
  • Assessing client environments, spotting technical and security risks early, and recommending practical solutions.
  • Acting as the senior escalation point for complex issues that need deeper investigation.
  • Keeping clients and colleagues informed with clear, timely updates.
  • Producing documentation and handovers that set the support team up for success.
  • Visiting client sites and coordinating with suppliers and other third parties.
  • Sharing your knowledge and mentoring other technicians.

What you will bring

  • Solid experience in a managed service provider or similar multi-client IT environment.
  • Advanced troubleshooting skills across Microsoft 365, Entra, Intune, Defender, Windows, endpoints and networking.
  • Experience of client onboarding, migrations, integrations or technical audits.
  • A security-first approach to access, configuration and client data.
  • Confidence communicating with clients, colleagues and third parties, both in writing and in person.
  • The judgement to work independently on complex tasks while keeping the right people informed.
  • Experience with N-able and Microsoft Dynamics 365, or similar remote monitoring, service management and CRM tools.

Why join us

  • A genuine career path: all our technicians work within a skills framework linked to Pluralsight, a leading technical skills platform, so you can see what the next level looks like and have the learning to get there.
  • A comprehensive talent development framework that supports you to learn, grow and develop in your role over the long term.
  • Paid technical certifications to support your professional growth.
  • A company vehicle, with business mileage paid at HMRC-approved rates.
  • Varied, meaningful work across projects, onboarding and escalations, with a different challenge most weeks.
  • A senior role where your knowledge shapes how we deliver, and where mentoring others is recognised.
  • The opportunity of being part of the Owlis Group, a growing group of technology businesses.

Our recruitment process

Our process usually has three to four stages:

  • A short pre-screening call with our HR and Recruitment team.
  • A technical and experience interview with the hiring manager, likely to be held on site, which may include a technical assessment.
  • A conversation with a senior member of the team, joined by a colleague from the Owlis Group management team.
  • A short final call with an Owlis Group executive, after which we aim to make an offer.

Any offer is conditional on two satisfactory professional references from employers named on your CV (with a work email address for each), proof of your right to work in the UK and, where required, a DBS check. We are unable to offer visa sponsorship.

Please note that this is a job advertisement rather than a full job description. The complete job description will be shared with you alongside your contract of employment.
