Senior OpenShift & Kubernetes Platform Engineer

Location: 100% Remote within the United States

Work Authorization: Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer. Sponsorship is not available for this position.

Primary Focus: Building, automating, and scaling enterprise container platforms across AWS and Azure with a heavy focus on Red Hat OpenShift.

About the Opportunity

A leading global aerospace and defense technology organization is seeking a Senior OpenShift & Kubernetes Platform Engineer to join an advanced cloud engineering team supporting a large-scale cloud modernization initiative.

This organization develops innovative aerospace, aviation, and defense technologies that support commercial, government, and mission-critical operations worldwide. As more critical applications move to AWS and Azure, the company is making significant investments in cloud-native technologies, container platforms, automation, and enterprise Kubernetes standards.

This is a hands-on engineering role for someone who enjoys building platforms, automating infrastructure, solving complex technical challenges, and helping application teams successfully deploy and scale containerized workloads.

What You Will Be Doing

  • Build, administer, and scale enterprise Red Hat OpenShift environments
  • Support Kubernetes platforms across OpenShift, Amazon EKS, and Azure AKS
  • Manage cluster lifecycle activities including provisioning, upgrades, patching, tuning, and capacity planning
  • Design and deploy highly available container platforms in AWS and Azure
  • Develop Infrastructure as Code solutions using Terraform
  • Automate platform administration through Ansible, Python, and Bash
  • Support CI/CD and GitOps deployment workflows
  • Implement Kubernetes and OpenShift security controls, RBAC, and network policies
  • Improve platform reliability, observability, monitoring, and operational standards
  • Troubleshoot complex issues across Kubernetes, OpenShift, Linux, networking, AWS, and Azure
  • Partner with application teams migrating and scaling cloud-native applications
  • Create deployment standards, automation frameworks, documentation, and operational runbooks

Required Qualifications

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer
  • No sponsorship is available for this position
  • 5+ years of Cloud Engineering, Platform Engineering, Infrastructure Engineering, or DevOps experience
  • 3+ years of hands-on Kubernetes administration experience
  • Strong production experience with Red Hat OpenShift (Required)
  • Experience deploying, administering, and supporting OpenShift in enterprise environments
  • Experience with Amazon EKS and/or Azure AKS
  • Strong Linux administration experience
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code using Terraform
  • Experience with Ansible automation
  • Experience scripting with Python or Bash
  • Experience supporting production container platforms at scale
  • Knowledge of Kubernetes RBAC, security controls, and network policies
  • Strong troubleshooting experience across Kubernetes, Linux, networking, cloud infrastructure, AWS, and Azure

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting OpenShift alongside EKS and AKS
  • Experience with GitHub Actions, GitLab, Jenkins, or Azure DevOps
  • Experience with GitOps practices and automated deployment workflows
  • Understanding of cloud-native architectures and microservices
  • Experience with observability, monitoring, and container platform reliability
  • Experience with container security and policy enforcement
  • Experience creating enterprise platform standards and automation frameworks
  • Strong communication skills working on distributed engineering teams

Important: OpenShift experience is the primary requirement for this role. The hiring team is specifically seeking engineers with hands-on production experience administering and supporting Red Hat OpenShift environments. Candidates with only general Kubernetes experience and limited OpenShift exposure are unlikely to be a fit.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of New York, NY.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $65.00 - $80.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
