Senior Corporate and Commercial Lawyer

Brisbane or Sydney

  • 12-month fixed term contract with potential to extend.
  • Opportunity to work on complex corporate matters in a true generalist role.
  • Enjoy matter autonomy and hybrid working (50% WFH) in a collaborative team.

About the Role

This is a fantastic opportunity to join Suncorp’s Corporate Advisory legal team on a 12-month fixed term contract with potential to extend. You will advise on a wide variety of Group projects, including corporate advisory matters, commercial agreements, M&A transactions and capital management.

This broad, generalist role offers direct exposure to senior leaders across the Group as you build relationships and exercise commercial judgement, along with the autonomy to manage matters from start to finish.

At Suncorp, you’ll be part of a supportive and inclusive culture where people collaborate, share knowledge and learn from each other. Flexible and hybrid working, including 50% work from home, helps you balance focused work with valuable time alongside your team. A four-day working week or flexible hours may be considered for this role.

What You'll Do

  • Draft, review and negotiate commercial agreements, including procurement, sponsorship, partnership and technology contracts.
  • Advise on a wide variety of matters including M&A transactions, capital management activities, corporate governance and head office advisory matters.
  • Manage a broad portfolio of matters and stakeholder relationships with autonomy and sound judgement.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and knowledge management (including by use of Suncorp’s legal AI platform).
  • Support in the configuration of Suncorp’s legal AI platform for use by other parts of Suncorp’s business to support contract negotiation and contract lifecycle management.
  • Identify and advise on legal, commercial and regulatory issues and escalate them appropriately.

What You'll Bring

  • Hold a law degree, admission to practice and current practising certificate.
  • Bring 5+ years of post admission commercial legal experience from a top-tier or mid-tier Australian law firm or in-house corporate, M&A or commercial practice group.
  • Demonstrate strong generalist experience across corporate and commercial law.
  • Apply sound knowledge of the Corporations Act, ASX Listing Rules and listed company obligations.
  • Work autonomously, manage competing priorities and take ownership of matters with minimal supervision.
  • Adapt quickly, communicate with confidence and provide commercially focused advice to varied audiences.

What You'll Enjoy

Access our award-winning Shine platform – your central hub for exclusive perks, wellbeing support, career development, and recognition. Shine has been recognised for excellence in employee experience, making it easier than ever to access what matters most to you.
