Senior in-house legal role providing expert legal advice to the business on a wide range of matters.
We’ve never been ‘just a bank’. Just like you should never be ‘just an employee’. We’re united in our belief that in banking, better can be bigger, and together we’re making it happen.
It starts here. With Bendigo Bank… and you.
Bendigo Bank exists to feed into the prosperity of our customers and community. We know that as a bank we will only be successful if we focus first on the success of our customers, our people, communities, partners, suppliers, and shareholders.
Our Group Legal division provides legal advice and support to the Bank’s business units, senior leaders, and executives on a broad variety of legal issues. We are looking for an accomplished Senior Legal Counsel to join the team full time.
Reporting into the Head of Group Legal, you’ll partner closely with the business as a trusted legal advisor to support strategic initiatives in a fast-paced and regulated environment. You’ll also have the opportunity to assist with overall legal needs for major projects and transactions, such as regulatory changes and responses to identified risk exposures.
We’re seeking a senior level lawyer with demonstrated experience in Financial Services Regulation (compliance and/or enforcement), to deliver top-tier legal advice and drive pragmatic, commercial solutions while proactively managing risk.
You’ll be part of a team whose culture is based on trust and mutual respect, who work collaboratively and independently. The work you do will be impactful and your expertise will be valued by the business.
This role can be based in Melbourne, Adelaide, or Bendigo. We offer flexible work options that put our people first, working in a hybrid model with a minimum local Head Office attendance requirement determined by your Leader, to find a rhythm that works best for you and your team. We believe that coming into the office some of the time is the best way to learn, stay connected and collaborate effectively, especially for key activities like team days, 1:1s, and town halls.
What you’ll bring to the role
- A legal qualification and admission to practice in Australia
- Demonstrated previous experience in a similar role from within the Banking and Financial Services sector (private practice or in-house)
- Highly developed relationship skills, able to build trust and confidence with senior executives and business partners
- Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
- Strong technical analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to interpret and explain complex legislation and to plan and implement policy and risk management strategies considering legislative and regulatory changes
So, why work with us?
- Want big impact that matters? Here, you’ll know your work directly benefits the customers and communities we all serve.
- Want to be more than just a number? Join a team that truly values you – and that gets more and more diverse every day.
- Want career opportunity AND flexibility? Achieve both here, where we know that balance and progression go hand in hand.
You’ll also get access to a great range of benefits, including:
- Hybrid work? Flexible hours? A compressed work week? Our flexible work options are designed to suit your life.
- Health and wellbeing support, including discounted gym memberships, private health insurance options, and our Employee Assistance Program (EAP) for you and your immediate family members.
We’re making better, bigger. And we’ll get there with you.
Could you be our new Senior Legal Counsel? Now’s the time to set your sights higher – on the future you deserve. Apply now! Applications close 1st November.
At Bendigo and Adelaide Bank we believe a diverse workforce supported by an inclusive culture is central to our success and we actively encourage applications from those who bring diversity of thought to our business. We support candidate requests for adjustment to accommodate an illness, injury, or disability to equitably participate in the selection process.
