We are Rolls‑Royce SMR and we’re doing something that’s never been done before. We’re revolutionising an industry. That’s a once‑in‑a‑career opportunity for those excited by such a challenge. This is more than just a job; this is a legacy.

The Electrical, Control & Instrumentation (EC&I) function is responsible for delivering integrated control, instrumentation and monitoring systems across the power station. C&I Components & Physical Integration is responsible for ensuring these systems are physically integrated, qualified and deliverable within the overall plant design.

About the Role:

As a Senior Manager – C&I (Components & Physical Integration), you will lead the specification, design, integration, qualification and delivery of C&I hardware, instrumentation, equipment packages and plant integration solutions across the SMR programme.

You will provide leadership for the integration of sensors, transmitters, instrumentation assemblies, field equipment, cabinets, equipment rooms, cable routing, penetrations, supports, installation arrangements and plant interfaces required to implement the overall C&I architecture.

Working closely with Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, Layout, Equipment Qualification, Safety Case and Plant Integration teams, you will ensure complete, coordinated and constructible solutions while maintaining compliance with nuclear safety, qualification and operability requirements.

A major part of this role will involve acting as the intelligent customer for instrumentation suppliers, equipment manufacturers, package vendors and engineering service providers, establishing a world-class C&I integration capability to support fleet deployment.

We’ll Need You To:

  • Lead specification and delivery of instrumentation, field equipment and C&I hardware packages
  • Define equipment performance, environmental qualification and reliability requirements
  • Develop strategies supporting safe operation, maintenance and lifecycle performance
  • Ensure alignment between component selection and plant-wide requirements
  • Lead equipment qualification activities including environmental, seismic and EMC qualification
  • Chair technical reviews, governance meetings and engineering assurance activities
  • Lead physical integration of C&I systems within plant buildings and modules
  • Define equipment access, location, installation and maintainability requirements
  • Coordinate interfaces with Mechanical, Electrical, Civil and Plant Layout teams
  • Support constructability, operability and commissioning reviews
  • Establish strategic supplier relationships and manage equipment supply chains
  • Lead vendor assessment, supplier qualification and equipment selection activities
  • Drive programme delivery, quality assurance and technical risk management
  • Build and develop a high-performing engineering organisation

  • Strong background in physical integration, plant layout and design coordination
  • Experience managing equipment qualification activities, including environmental and seismic qualification
  • Strong knowledge of systems engineering and design integration principles
  • Experience coordinating complex multidisciplinary engineering interfaces
  • Understanding of nuclear safety classification, safety case support and regulatory compliance
  • Experience leading strategic supplier relationships and managing vendor-delivered packages
  • Strong programme delivery, commercial awareness and stakeholder management skills
  • Experience leading engineering organisations and developing technical capability
  • Understanding of modular plant design and industrialised construction methodologies

Qualifications:

  • Degree qualified in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Instrumentation Engineering, Control Engineering, Systems Engineering or another STEM discipline
  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) or equivalent professional registration
  • Significant experience delivering instrumentation, integration or equipment solutions in regulated environments
