Senior Manager of Finance

Our Finance team consists of almost a dozen staff members positioned globally with our CFO located in our U.S. office. Our team works in a very collaborative diverse environment with strong communications between different disciplines, business segments and industry leaders. THE OPPORTUNITY
This role oversees the accounting and financial reporting functions for SPE Middle East DMCC (Dubai), SPE Asia Pacific (Kuala Lumpur), and the International Petroleum Technology Conference (IPTC). Key responsibilities include coordinating and managing audits, conducting balance sheet reviews, providing guidance to regional finance staff, and preparing and presenting financial reports to regional boards in support of these organizations.
The position also oversees and participates in core financial activities, including accounts payable and receivable, inventory management, program cost analysis, financial statement preparation, budgeting, tax compliance, audit coordination, and financial forecasting.

THE IMPACT YOU WILL MAKE IN THIS ROLE
Financial Reporting
- Prepare or supervise preparation of monthly financial statements such as balance and income statements, annual budgets and forecasts for SPE Middle East, SPE Asia Pacific and IPTC – International Petroleum Technology Conference
- Ensure that all financial statements are prepared in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles or International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) that are required for each legal entity prepared in UAE dirhams and Malaysian ringgits as required
- Conduct monthly financial reviews with financial staff in Dubai and Kuala Lumpur and report results to CFO in Dallas Texas USA
- Corporate tax return preparation including proper filing of VAT tax reports for Asia Pacific and Middle East region
- Oversee audits and coordinate audit field work with Dubai and Kuala Lumpur offices
Accounting
- Prepare, enter and approve journal entries, cash receipts and cash disbursements timely and accurately supported by documentation easily accessible for review by Internal and External Auditors
- Monitor collections on accounts receivable and identify problem accounts
- Properly record foreign currency transactions
- Ensure proper reporting of statutory accounts in United Arab Emirates and Malaysia
- Enforce adequate and effective internal accounting controls and ensure inter-company balances are settled quarterly
- Monitor timely payments, correct accounting codes and intended application
- Complete and sign off on Balance Sheet reviews on a monthly basis
Leadership Responsibilities
- Directly supervise and support financial staff in Dubai and Kuala Lumpur.
- Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERTISE
- Bachelor's degree with at least 10 years of accounting experience
- Must be a Chartered Certified Accountant or a Certified Professional Accountant with strong IFRS knowledge
- Ability to perform all of the required financial and accounting duties described above with extensive experience conducting and assisting with complex auditing and finances
- Strong financial preparation and reporting including corporate tax, VAT and government required filings in the UAE and preferably experienced with Malaysia; experience with UK (Europe) accounting requirements is a plus
- Leadership experience and demonstrated abilities in managing an accounting department across geographically dispersed teams and multiple time zones, preferably with staff in UAE (Dubai) and/or Malaysia (Kuala Lumpur) – total of 5 or more staff members
- Oracle NetSuite experience required or similar large-scale ERP; Essbase experience is a plus
- Must be proficient with all MS Office products: Excel, Word, PowerPoint
- Must have experience working with foreign currency particularly with Dirhams and Ringgits
- Champion finance transformation initiatives, including process simplification, automation, data visualization, and implementation of new tools and ways of working

- English fluent; other languages may be useful but not essential
- Effective communication skills with ability to present insights and meaningful analyses
- Ability to travel up to 4 times annually to Kuala Lumpur
- Willingness to be available occasionally as needed to attend conference calls beyond regular business hours
