We are currently looking for a Senior Manager Marketing Communications to join our team in Mississauga, ON.
POSITION SUMMARY
Responsible for setting and executing the marketing communications strategy for the Nissan brand in Canada, including advertising (brand, retail and DAA), partnerships & events, media planning, reporting and VI (visual identity) initiatives to support attainment of corporate sales, brand image and product positioning objectives for Nissan. Responsible for maximizing Agency efficiency and overall management of agency staff, and NCI marketing team.
A Day in the Life:
The following position function statements describe the general nature and level of work being performed. The position function statements reflect expectations of the fully trained, proficient incumbent who meets all performance criteria.
- Strategic management and development of Nissan advertising plans nationally (brand, retail and DAA), with executions across all media channels (traditional, digital, social, events etc). Manage all related agency activities and budgets. Examples include developing media and creative plans for product launches and sustainment campaigns, ensuring collaboration with all relevant stakeholders (agency, CMM, web/CRM/events/PR and regional teams). Success metrics include marketing KPIs (traffic, KBAs, leads, brand lift, OAO etc), as well as dealership traffic & engagement, and sales. 45%
- Lead development and execution of all Nissan partnerships, sponsorships and events, ensuring key brand initiatives are executed flawlessly, delivering desired outcomes. This includes major sponsorships (i.e. CHL), as well as key events (i.e. Autoshows) as well as provide assistance to regional teams for local activation opportunities. 20%
- Control the overall FMI budget for Marketing Communications team. Ensure the allocation of Direct and Indirect funds are effectively used in accordance with the NCI’s Delegation of Authority Policy. Work with finance department to ensure adherence to overall budgets as the fiscal year progresses. 10%
- Integration and best use of market research data into brand development and advertising plans, as well as providing relevant and actionable marketing reporting within a variety of governance meetings withing the local region, as well as with Global Nissan teams; e.g. work with MI/BI group to identify opportunities for brand enhancement and work with data to enhance media plans to ensure corporate objectives are met. 10%
- Manage, develop, train and motivate marketing team (team of 8, 3 direct reports) and ensure integration of functions to achieve corporate goals. Manage different program rollouts and materials for executive meetings. Includes managing agencies to ensure obligations are being met and that budget is managed. 10%
- Responsible for communications of brand strategies and vehicle launch campaigns nationally. Including liaison with all Nissan divisions, executive, regions and dealers for feedback. 5%
Who We’re Looking for:
Minimum Qualifications:
The following qualification factors reflect the minimum skills and abilities required of the qualified applicant.
Knowledge:
· This position requires a University degree in marketing/advertising or equivalent discipline,
· 15 years experience in automotive industry/retail operations with brand and product specific experience in marketing (five of which are in a managerial position).
· Knowledge of Dealer/factory operations are critical. Incumbents must have experience managing projects, budgets, agencies or suppliers of communications services.
· Must have a demonstrated history of working at, or with, advertising and/or media agencies.
· Strong planning and organisational skills and knowledge of the diverse Canadian market are required.
· Event marketing experience.
· Broad knowledge of marketing principles and activities is required.
· Proficiency in understanding the general market and automotive market in Canada, as well as media theory, research methodologies and the branding concept are required.
Interpersonal Skills: A variety of internal and external contacts are required including executive presentations, employee and dealer presentations and communications. Expert communications skills are required when managing agencies; implementing national programs; managing conflict, communicating with staff and other suppliers is on-going; facilitation, collaboration, communicating complex information and persuasion are applied daily in meetings to develop and brainstorm programs; active listening, the ability to communicate clearly and with diplomacy, conflict resolution, coaching, counselling and negotiation skills are also required; persuasion is necessary when obtaining buy-in from the Director, Marketing, VP Director of Sales, Regional Managers , dealers, other stakeholders, etc. on various programs.
Complexity and Problem Solving: Problems are very unique, diverse, broad and conceptual in nature and require significant judgement and ingenuity to develop potential solutions. The market is constantly changing for both vehicle launches and Regional Marketing. For example, Regional Marketing budgets are constantly re-visited to ensure expenditures do not exceed revenues. Budget and market conditions are always changing and must be considered when developing Regional Marketing strategies and initiatives.
Physical and Sensory Demands: Sensory and physical demands are normal for an office position and include phone and personal meetings. Considerable computer work preparing presentations, reviewing data, e-mails, reviewing and writing reports.
Decision-Making and Impact: All decisions related to the department are the incumbents, however the Director determines the overall strategy, and budget setting is a multi-stakeholder review process. The incumbent is expected to act independently and take the initiative to develop potential solutions within Marketing. Responsible for the planning of Brand, Regional Marketing strategy, new model launches, budget recommendations.
People Management: This position directly manages 3 positions:
1. Manager, Brand Marketing
2. Manager, Retail Marketing
3. Manager, Sponsorships & Events
All typical management responsibilities are expected including, for example, performance review, assigning tasks, setting objectives, career development, and day-to- day coaching.
Desired:
· Experience in a dealer or franchise organisation are assets as well as bilingualism (French/English).
WORKING CONDITIONS
The position is exposed to continuous conflicting deadlines, an ever-varying workload and occasional travel.

Salary Range:
$133,622.00 - $167,174.00This compensation range represents the minimum to midpoint base salary rates at Nissan for jobs assigned to this particular grade level. Please note that an employee’s base salary may occasionally be set above the midpoint of the salary band for this grade level, in recognition of the employee’s unique skills, work experience, education, work location, or market conditions. Compensation decisions also consider internal equity and comparisons with the base salary rates of other employees with similar backgrounds working in comparable roles. Note: Bonus, benefits, and other forms of variable compensation are not included in the base-salary range shown above.
