The Office of the Vice Provost for Research, Office of Research Administration (ORA) seeks a temporary part-time Sr. Manager, Research Administration (Contracts) to work at the University of Miami.
CORE JOB SUMMARY
The Senior Manager, Research Administration engages in research study conduct, site selection and qualification activities, as well as site management, and balances resources, budgets, and priorities across multiple studies to further the University’s research goals and objectives. Additionally, the Senior Manager, Research Administration leads vendor and consulting staff selection to ensure the best possible end product.
CORE JOB FUNCTIONS
- Oversees vendor contract compliance to ensure terms and conditions are respected and adhered to.
- Recruits, trains, and mentors department staff to develop talent and improve performance.
- Implements approved research protocols and operational plans, which are consistent with strategic business objectives.
- Monitors budget and ensures that payments for research activities and funding for new projects are timely.
- Researches new technologies and monitors and evaluates existing technology for improvement opportunities.
- Grows the portfolio of units who currently have small grant portfolios.
- Coordinates events during which investigators with complementary research interests can interact.
- Identifies collaborative funding opportunities, creates a timeline, and assigns administrators and analysts to work on the multiple sections of proposal submissions.
- Manages pre and post-award activities for departmental and non-departmental units with specialized needs.
- Establishes and continuously assesses the effectiveness of the internal controls within the unit and compliance with University policies and procedures.
- Ensures employees are trained on controls within the function and on University policy and procedures.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in relevant field required.
Experience:
Minimum 7 years of relevant experience required. Appropriate combination of relevant education and/or experience may be considered.

- Operational Management: Optimizes day-to-day operations and processes for efficiency and effectiveness.
- Organizational Development: Ability to implement strategies to improve organizational effectiveness, engagement, and manage change.
- Financial Oversight: Knowledge of financial operations and management.
- Team Leadership: Ability to create and maintain a cohesive and productive team environment, build positive working relationships and work collaboratively with others.
- Technical Proficiency: Skilled in using office software, technology, and relevant computer applications.
- Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills to convey ideas clearly and persuasively.
